sharkie, I'm not going to let you buy a boxster- pure and simple! So it's over, don't even think about one of those again, it's not going to happen OK!

      Hi Sharkie,

Youve got it all messed up. Go back to your roots. 12 second MK1 Golf turbo.
      Sounds like a plan?

holy crap, I just read this - you couldn't seriously put a boxster on the track, it would be like putting a SAAB 9-3 out there!

So it can only be a 911 - mind you, you do realise that it will eventually kill you on the track

Those were the days .... you picked the S3 most of the time right ...

I love Ferrari's as well, but they are just too expensive too buy and WAY too expensive to run and a bit unreliable. Besides I have a "tame" Porsche mechanic available to me ..... Jmac ....

Its because it all leaked out on the way .... there is nothing left to make a pool ....

Actually sounds like a VERY good plan .... but it would end up to be as much trouble as a Ferrari .... work on it never ends ....

Boxsters & Caymans are actually very good on the track. Motor's previous issue had the Boxster do 3rd best time overall ..... 6s clear of a R, 5s clear of a Megane RS and Focus R around Phillip Island. Much better than a 9-3 ..... ..... I don't want to win, just want to have some fun ..... and enjoy the drive .... and know that it is German reliable ....

And do I want to do what Greg said .... own a Porsche before I die ..... in another few years I may be able to afford a 911 ... preferably a Carrera 4S .... in a manual .... but if I delay till then it may not happen and I'll be too old to enjoy it ....

I don't care, you're still not buying one. And you said it doesn't have to be the fastest, so there's no argument

But just to reinforce the idea, some quotes from the forums:
"Because if you don't have the money to get a nice sports car like a 911 then most people get the crappy boxster".
"The boxter is the entry level Porsche, lowest sticker price, and definately the least desirable of the Porsche line up."
"When people cannot afford a 911, they get a Boxster."
"Sweet little engine, but a little slow in 2.5 litre form. It's never nice to drive a porsche that struggles to outrun a hot Clio...!"
"Nevertheless way too much money i think . It turns very nice but that tiptronic thing ruins your fun if you want to go really hard ,that gearbox is for grannies or for lads that just cruize around. Definatly not a car for a real driver."

Then you get the very occasional biased view like this:

"The Porsche Boxster Range are extremely fast powerful sports cars and more importantly they are the best handling roadsters on this earth that are in production!"

But then they did go on to say: "The centre console is truly a work of art and with the titanium panelling it really does look the part. As with all sports cars there is always the question of where do you put the shopping and I know that most passengers don't mind it on their lap however this does get annoying..."

            But what about this?:
"The Audi TT RS is powered by a 2.5-liter TFSI engine with 360 hp and 332 lb-ft of torque that can get it from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.6 seconds.
The Nissan 370Z is powered by a 3.7-litre V6 engine developing 328 PS while the Porsche Boxster S has a 310 hp engine. The Porsche Boxster S requires 5.0 seconds to get from 0 to 60 mph."

what would we do without the internet!

                  I agree..

Sure the Boxster may be the poor mans Porsche, but its still more Porsche than some over marketed HSV or FPV! I say go Boxster!

I don't think so ..... The Boxster has to date won any comparison test its been in .... including against M3's etc ....

It is a seriously good car .... and I don't believe in the mantra "it shows you can't afford a 911" either. 911's whilst good are getting so expensive its almost vulgar .... Baby Porsches show you appreciate the brand and the drive whilst still being sensible with your money ....

Its like a Tig, worth more than the sum of its parts ..... not sure you can say the same for a 911 ....

I can't claim to having driven a Boxster but my Nephew had one of the first S models off the line when he was living in England (waiting list over there was 2 years at the time and his order changed as the S became available). He's a car fanatic and absolutely LOVED the Boxster. It was eventually sold as family came along and more space was required and he ended up going the BMW way (540i from memory) before returning to NZ.

He swore that it was virtually untouchable on England's windy country roads and that even the 911 would have a real battle hanging on to it (he had a mate with an older 911).

So, if I had the dosh and the desire for a soft-top I'd be into a Boxster in a flash !!

                      Cheers

Alas, thats 1 thing I will happily give up .... shopping and parking lots at shopping centers .... 1 of the things that will wear me down if I do it, is that fact that I will never be able to park it anywhere but at home, at work and at Guy's & Jmacs respectively ......

I'm inclined to get the TDI in a truck, 120kw bi-turbo version would go well. Apparently the TSI will be available later in the year.
