Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Probably should have optioned that in at the start but i only had the RCD310 so now i have the RNS510 in i should be able to get it done.
The boofhead (sorry football legend) had a camera fitted but didn't use it nor did he know where his child was when he reversed out. He's now calling for a public education campaign to remind parents and this will no doubt lead to the Queensland Government accelerating their plans to fence off driveways.

Even with both sensors and a camera (sensors will alert you via sound but won't detect everything and the camera can't see everything and requires you to look at the screen so really both compliement each other) you still can't tell if a child is up against the bumper or under the rear of the car and the only way to keep your children safe is to know where they are when you're reversing out.

Education campaigns and fencing off driveways won't stop children being run over, cameras and sensors _can_ help but seeing the child in a safe place is the only way to know for sure.

For sure Mav, there is a definite need for better parenting and how hard is it to check that the kid's are safe first.

But i will still be looking at it because every bit of extra safety may help.
Even if it only saves me from having a crunch once in it's life i still see that as worth the cost to install it.

Agree 100%. Care-bears will now blow this out of proportion again.

My kids were taught from an early age to never go behind a moving car and will always assemble infront of the car when I'm reversing out so that I know where they are and can see them. I don't move until I can see all the kids present in front.

Unfortunately the law has to cater for the lowest common denominator and I'm afraid you do get some really stupid people out there ....

Definitely not dismissing the importance of cameras and/or sensors both from a running over a child point of view (especially in shopping centres and other public car parks when they're not yours) and from a damage point of view (low bollards/walls and so on).

The install of my RVC should be pretty well identical to the Tiguan and should give you an idea of what's involved, I think that the rear handle is the same on the Tiguan but if not it would be the same as the Passat which has a camera available as well. Buying the parts from overseas is a lot cheaper.

            Thanks for the info Mav.
I will see how much the parts cost from overseas.
I have managed to get the trim removed by myself so i probably could do the install at home but i am not entirely confident in my abilities so i may end up caving and getting someone else to wire it up.

            • Hey Team V!

Sorry I have joined this thread a bit late...

Where did you get those wheels from??? They are really great!

I am still having no luck finding a tyre shop that can get in anything for a tig. So frustrating!!

Would you be offfended if others had the same wheels as you on their tig? Dont want to ruin your individuality....

                Hey mate.
I got them from tempe tyres and they are available in 18" and 19" options.

I don't mind if you get them, they are the wheels that come with the R-line Tiguan and other and .:R cars anyway so i am not being overly individual.
They are very easy to clean and they look very impressive.

                • New update:

Car is at Mike Webber's getting the downpipe fitted and the ecu remapped for stage 2.
He is also coding hte car to recognise the RNS510 system.

Will let you know how it goes this afternoon.

Sharkie knows more about it than i do.

                    • No worries.
I always like threads that you can follow owners car's all the way through and see what they have done.

Contemplating getting a new grill from the US and mocking up my version of the caractere grill.
Also have to work on springs and reverse camera.

                      • Okay got the Tig back from Mike.

RNS is coded and works beautifully.
Apparently it was quite an annoying one to do (maybe because it is from UK)

MY10 model tiguan's apparently have 2 oxygen sensors (1 t the top of the downpipe and 1 near the end) so they are modifying the prototype downpipe for me to match my Tig and then it should be ready to go on next week.

                            Thanks Steve.
It should net an extra 10 engine kw which will round it off to 200kw.

The S3 intercooler isn't really needed as yet, maybe when summer hits i will upgrade that.
