  • offset on 18" wheels (35 or 45)

Can someone explain to me please...

Tempe do 18" wheels for Audi/VW with either 35 or 45 offset.

they reckon both offsets will fit on the Tig, so how will the different offset affect the car, if at all?

Am I right in assuming the 35 will stick out a bit closer to the guards and give it that extra chunky look?

    thanks

35 will poke out further yes, and I would DEFINITELY get 35 offset. I have 42 and it's good but 35 would be spot on. Unfortunately they only had 42 when I went there I seriously crave some 30 offsets..............maybe one day

sorry V your calcs are a bit out there; 18"x8" wheel is 38mm wider than stock 6.5" et33 wheel so:

ET 33 18x8 will sit 19mm further in than stock and 19mm further out

ET 35 18x8 will sit 21mm further in than stock and 17mm further out

ET 45 18x8 will sit 31mm further in that stock and 7mm further out

Bugger, i used the tyre size calculator, not the wheel size calculator.
I knew wheel width had to come into it somewhere but i couldn't work out where.

thanks for the updated info Pullstarter.

Depending on the tyre size, you may have some scrubbing fore and aft on full lock with lower offsets. Since pertty much everything in the wheel arch is plastic, some re-shaping with a heatgun will sort it all out. Other than that, you have my full support!

35 offset 18x8 with 235/50-18s won't go anywhere near scrubbing, even when lowered on H&Rs I'm considering spacing my rears out 15mm which would be equivalent to ET27 offset

So, with 18" (wider) wheels and tyres, would I get a poorer turn circle, as the tyre would foul the inner guard? If it doesn't - does this mean I can wind in the bump stops on my 16" (narrower) wheels to get a better turn circle?

Only a roughie Johan, about $150 AUD shipped per pair including longer studs. I'm just not so sure I really want to use spacers with the subsequent insurance issues that may arise

With the 235/50-18 you won't get any fouling whatsoever, even on full lock. As to the second question no idea

                            +35 is fine

I have 19x8 +30 and is fine, not even close to scrubbing on anything and looks heaps more aggressive
