Hey guys,
My dad has the 2010 Tiguan 103TDI with the 18" New York Alloys.
The tyres they need are: 235/40/18
He does ALOT of country driving with dirt roads being a common occurrence on weekends, and during the week it is on normal suburban roads/freeways.
I was trying to stick to tyres from:
Continental
Michelin
Good Year
Pirelli
What do people recommend here?Previously known as Aventador87

Previous: MY10 Tiguan 2.0TSI, Silver Leaf, APR StgII tune + many mod's

Having said that they get a pretty harsh life from me.
I would get them again as they are a competent tyre for the reasonable price.
I was looking at semi slicks but it's not worth it for the limited time i do.

Yay!!! Tyres are in!!!! Got the Continental ExtremeContact DW in 255/40ZR19, 100Y from TireRack!!! Arrived yesterday and the new wheels are on!! Feels pretty good so far but had not done any highway driving yet.
I was asked by the Bob Jane guy if I had checked whether the tyres are made to 'Australia Standard'. I asked him what he meant. He said some customers ordered thru TireRack as well and some experienced shaking during higher speeds and he said some ppl do, some ppl don't. N he said "you'll see!" and smiled. Don't really liked the sound of it tho.
But here's some photos!!! We all like photos!

It could be that some people get older tyres (on sale, super cheap) but i doubt they make them to different standards for different markets.
Tyres look fat, tread pattern isn't too agressive which i find a little odd but the offset needs another 5mm outwards

DOT stands for department of transport. It's the US body. I have no idea what Aussietig is asking you.
I'd be more interested in seeing if the manufacture dates are within a few months of each other.
re: the Bob jane guys comments. He's trying to put the wind up ya. No tyre shop likes fitting tyres bought elsewhere - we used to refuse to fit tyres we hadn't sourced as it p!ssed us off so much that we'd lost a sale (we used to sell at $1 profit just to deny our competitors a sale). If you do get vibrations then I'd be wondering if he actually balanced them properly.carandimage The place where Off-Topic is On-Topic
I used to think I was anal-retentive until I started getting involved in car forums

So 'Date On Tyre' or 'Date Of Tyre' ... whichever floats your boat!
By way of example, here's a pic of a tyre on the car I would be driving right now if I was shooting blanks.
The DOT on the tyre is 1107.
First two digits represents the week number in the calendar year and last two the year itself.
If you speak to any so called tyre expert, they'll say keep away from any tyres aged 2 years or more.
This often explains why some normally expensive tyres sell at bargain prices occasionally.Last edited by aussietig; 23-05-2012, 11:09 PM.MY11 Tiguan 147TSI (SOLD)
