Yes I have also thought of 255/40/19's too. Like the slightly wider stance.
    Hey HaywireTig,

Re. Customs, basically yeah you'd be hit with Duty/GST if what you're bringing in is worth more than $1000AUD at time of importation - I believe that Freight is included in this but not 100% certain. They're looking at changing this to anything over $50AUD but don't think it's happened yet. If you can break it into 2 shipments of under $1000 each that should help. Plenty of people do it that way.

    Cheers & good luck!

    • I asked Tirerack. My initial order was for 8 tyres and shipping was just under 500. I was told I might save 25 bucks if I only shipped 4. So it would be close to 900 for shipping vs 500.

Duty/GSt is only added onto the purchase if the purchase price (not inclusive of shipping) is over $1000AU.
Then you also incur customs fees i believe.

Breaking it into 2 shipments is okay but increases shipping costs.
You could try and see if they will increase the shipping cost and give you a discount on the wheel price to cover the difference.

freight isn't included in the $1k limit but if you exceed $1k then they include the freight in the amount you pay duty on.

eg: $999 goods plus $500 freight =no duty or GST
          $1001 goods plus $500 freight = ~$225 duty+GST

              • Does anyone have a mate with a boat? Like a really, really big boat?? If so, MULTIPLE GROUP BUYS!! Just think... No duties or taxes, a couple of cartons for boat owner instead of shipping! With the money we save, we could get even more performance/appearance enhancements!

Now where was that "who tows a boat" thread... ?

                • duty is 5% & is levied on the $1500 total = $75. GST is 10% but I can't remember if it's on the $1500 or $1575, so I called it $150 hence my use of the ~ to denote approx.

                  • Ah so the 225 is GST and duties included.

                    • Some countries also share a free trade agreement with Australia though so i believe you don't incur duty if the item is manufactured and sent from those countries.

I thought duty on automotive parts was 5% but on other things (wine etc) it can be up to 15%

                      • $1200 (goods) x 1.05 (5% customs duty) = $1260

                        $1260 + $300 (shipping) = $1560

                        $1560 x 1.1 (10% GST) = $1716

However, there may (or may not) be other fees and charges that apply. Don't assume that the above is all you'll pay.

Most likely, if you're over the $1000 mark and Customs gets involved, you also may need to engage a Customs Broker as negotiating the system (ICS for Integrated Cargo System) is a bit of a nightmare - most people find it easier just to get a Broker to do it on their behalf. No idea on fees for that though but I don't think it's exorbitant and may save a headache...

                          • Hi Guys,

Just a little bit confused as to how much I should fill my tyres.

18" Eagle F1's that came from the dealer with 37-40psi.

Fuel cap says 220kpa, which is 32psi.

Can't go wrong with fuel cap recommendation?

                              32 seems low.
I run 38 in the fronts and 36 in the rears

                              36 all around is good.

                              • Ok, will fix this up later today.

Was trying to get the tyres right so I could calibrate the pressure sensors.
