Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Retro fitting front fog lights 2011 Tiguan. 2ltr Diesel. FWD.

    Hi
Have managed to retro fit frontfog lights, made my own harness, all wired up apart from the relay feed, where would I take the feed from to trigger the relay ?.
    Any ideas out there .

    cheers
    Scot

    Hey Mate

You will need to replace the light switch with a new switch that has a setting for front fog lights. It will be an open pin at the connector behind it and you can hook up the wire to it there.

Alternatively, connect to the rear foglight pin, but that will mean both front and back lights will activate at the same time, instead of the replacement switch that will turn them on separately.

Look at my example, yes it is an Amarok, but they have the same light switch ... Sharkie's TSI Amarok Build post 48.

Problem with connecting to the rear fog is that if a driver is one of the "nice" people who drive around with fogs on illegally it will mean that following cars wont be able to tell if rear brakes come on as fogs are as bright as the brake lights.
. Have been caught before and nearly had a prang because of it Car in front braked and lights didnt change and I nearly hit him. Bloody Mitsibitchys

        Hi
Have managed to find a feed for the front fogs, from the main fuse box under the dash, via a piggy back fuse, then decided to fit a rocker switch instead of going through headlight switch.

        Cheers

This is such a silly and outdated rule - like so many road rules are. With modern cars having daytime running lights, these are generally just as bright (or brighter) than most fog lights. Also many Subarus (I notice on current model Subaru Outbacks in particular) they use the fog lights as their DRL's so the fog lights are on all the time.

Im sure im not the only person who noticed multiple people each day driving at dusk/night with no lights on at all - how on earth these people dont realise they havent got their headlights on is beyond me - especially when its a dark colured car they are almost impossible to see until the last minute. This is much more dangerous than someone having their fog lights on.

I agree with you as also was trying to turn right on a busy road in the dark and was a line of cars coming and what appeared to be a gap in the line. So was just going to kick it to get through and a black Falcon with no lights at all on went past. Caused a bit of consternation.

My previous comment was about an instance where i was following a Mitsi SUV that had very bright tail lights It suddenly braked but the lights didnt get brighter as is usual. WHY I dont know but after passing saw it had everything blazing at the front so can only imagine he had his rear fogs on which were as bright as his brake lights and therefore dangerous as mentiioned
