Thanks mate, just the ECU tune for now. I’m also considering a res delete to get some dsg farts happening. Although I’m still not sure if that’ll deliver the goods based on other people’s feedback.

    Any suggestions?

Res delete will give a little bit but if you want to get good farts you'll have to change out the rear muffler. Just be careful with this one as you can introduce unwanted noise as others have found out changing the rear muffler.

Fair enough, I’ll take it even if it’s just a little difference. Not sure that I want to go any further than that.

Then again, I also said that I was going to keep it stock! [emoji38]

If you are contemplating stage 2, which is basically bolting on a down pipe, the apr setup will remove the resonator......

The apr exhaust that attaches to the turbo will also replace the catalytic converter with a hi flow one and remove the resonator section with just a straight pipe. They will also flash your car to stage 2 ECU software which will give you a bit more power under the curve. The dsg sound is definitely more pronounced, however it isn’t like the deep throaty farts like a golf r or gti. You would need to consider changing the muffler, which we are yet to find an off the shelf solution.

Sorry to say that it's not quite as easy as changing over the ECU as the immobiliser in the cluster is coded to only operate with the ECU. It used to be with older cars you could swap the ECU but on newer cars it's no longer possible.
Looks like an ecu swap is not impossible: Immobilizer IV ECU Swapping - Ross-Tech Wiki

Still not sure if this could avoid a tune detection though depending on how and where a tune is detected? Would have to weigh up the cost/benefit from this approach too

Best to talk to your tuner. Usually it's only an issue when you run a bigger turbo that can generate higher boost pressures.

Any motor is limited by cylinder pressure and cylinder temperature NOT boost, the question you need to ask is how much boost can I safely run on x turbo with y fuel and z timing and not be knock limited.

I will ask my question in a more specific way: How much boost are most stage 1 tunes like apr running for 98ron fuel?

When I have used a Tuner in the past they have asked me what my target boost is and have tuned around that. There is usually a consensus in the community on safe/optimal boost levels for any given engine for stock setups on 98 fuel.

Most of those Stage 1 tunes will push about 1.5bar boost however due to the small turbos they run out of efficiency real quick and tend to bleed down to about 1.2~1.3bar.

Stock GTI MK7 motors run 1 bar of boost.

Ive had the stage 1 tune done and resonator delete on my new Tig. Minimal change initially but the car has definitely grown a nice growl with some Soot settlement and it’s worth doing for sure, $100 is bugger all. Also, last night I noticed whilst loading up for a launch control the BOV was making the same sounds as the WRC cars do, which was very cool. It definitely took around 1000klms to get the note, but it is a very nice growl. As Tiggy said, be wary of changing the rear muffler, horrible drone can kill the sound and experience. I believe the airbox and down pipe/cat change out will significantly change the note but my advice from APR is to leave the rear muffler alone. Obviously this may change as more experience is gained. The car has managed to let out 1 fart since the res delete lol. Be nice to get that sound (in sport mode only if possible).

Sorry should have made myself clearer. First check @2000klms the car was returned to VW.

Nice one! I think a well designed Tiguan performance/sport muffler would be awesome. Bit of a unicorn at the moment.....if you come across anything let us know.

                              • To get a decent sound out of a Tiguan, you need to exit the exhaust outside, those pipes underneath create an echo chamber inside.
