Was going to go with Euro plates - but I found this was available

any idea how I can fix the awful black matting?
BTW - the plates don't really look like that - for some reason the iPhone camera sees the plate a being a lot lighter than my eyes do
Take the plate off and the bracket and peel off the matting and the sticky rubber underneath. Then just wash the area to get rid of any stickiness and put bracket and plate back on. Simple and like oks me ch better without it.
I think VW Australia just thinks that we are just local yokels and can't want what we don't see.

Ordered: 2017 build date Tiguan 162 TSI Highline with DAP in Tungsten Silver and rear luggage tray. ETA: late April / Early May. I did not have to wait. I took delivery on 11 March 2017.
Laterarival.....this is my first time with VW. Most of the car manufacture try to simplify their manufacture processes while VG try to create more production lines for dissapointment. I m quite confusing to know that we customers are willling to pay for our enjoyment while VW kind of like refusing to take the money .......weird.....

Believe me, we're all paying VW anyway. But not getting the features. The consumer is ultimately paying for all this unnecessary complexity in the supply chain.
I understand the need for regional variations due to local legislation and differing climate/road conditions, but I just don't understand the decisions behind such things as NZ getting valve sensors and a HUD, and the UK getting TJA and Adaptive Lane Guidance. Ideally the safety stuff would be standard across all models, but at the very least there should be parity across specs for a given price-point/model across regions.
I'm not a car buff, but I do recall someone on here saying that the Asian manufacturers didn't have so many variations. Perhaps this has to do with the prevalence of Lean Manufacturing in the East.
Could it just be that VWA is simple greedy for as much profit as possible.

In principal, its about each country's VW office deciding on what is 'best' for their market. This makes a lot of sense, except for the part that they apparently don't really know their market.

Totally right. Apart from inflating their manufacturing costs, I suspect that, on the whole, this does no harm. The vast majority of the market would be blissfully ignorant of what they're missing out on. Safe to assume that those who frequent this forum are better informed than the typical buyer and so we're the only minority that gets a bit ticked off.

Apparently not. By simplifying things you take cost out of the system and, provided you don't pass that on to customers, you make more profit. Given the size of VW AG, it's more likely one or more of: The way they do things is deeply entrenched (too hard to change); They're so cashed up that there isn't the drive for efficiency; There's a conscious decision to devolve spec decisions to each country (as @gladbach said).
At the end of the day, though, I'm just a grown-up having a little sulk because "I want my tyre pressure monitors!!!!"
Latearrival you are not alone. I'm not happy, as well.

My co-driver put it well though. She said, "Stop complaining about the things you're not getting and just be happy with the things that you are". On that note, I think I'll bow out of this thread and let it return to it's proper topic of discussion.

You're quite often happy with what you're getting, until you realise someone else is getting something better
I can understand if VW (and Audi) don't have some features on vehicles because they save on lower spec hardware. They produce the vehicle cheaper so on sell it cheaper. I get that.
But that's not what's happening here.
A lot of capability is just not switched on by default. WHY????
It's exactly the same hardware, but in a typical German act of bastardry they deliberately switch it off. It's not just the numbskull Australian regulations to blame as a lot of this tech and capability is available on other manufacturers vehicles. No it's just their attitude.
Contrast this with Korean and some Japanese manufacturers that release firmware updates to enable functionality that was never originally available. Take Hyundai for an example. They released a firmware update that enable CarPlay on vehicles that were never originally fitted with it. The owners never expected it, but got a pleasant surprise. Contrast now with this bunch of arseholes. The capability is there, but they will steadfastly refuse to enable capability for you, even if the hardware is staring you in the face. That's why so many of us have taken matters into our own hands with VCDS programming.
Brilliant! I've given VW the same rocks that my little monkey friends from the UK and NZ have given them, and I get these little crappy pieces of cucumber while they get to enjoy their lovely grapes.
