Must have new stickers for the 162TSI. My 155TSI has 2 symbols - a bigger 98 and a smaller 95.

But still if you get a bad batch of 95 then you'll have to go after the fuel company/service station rather than VW for compensation.

If you put your legal hat on, it clearly states on the fuel filler flap min 95 RON. So VW will wipe their hands of it if it's 94.5. It has happened before....

As I said you're safest putting 98 in and never having an issue. If you think you can save a few $ on fuel and then end up in a 3 way fight for legal compensation then you'll spend way more on legal costs than you'll get from fuel savings. It'll work out to $1 or 2 a tank for peace of mind. Personally I don't think it's worth the risk but everyone's risk tolerance is different.

      • Hi Tigger73

I understand what you say in regard to VW trying to avoid warrantee claims and I agree with you regarding "peace of mind".

But pinging only occurs under load. So even if you get a "bad" batch of petrol, just driving less spiritedly or even "shudder to think" gently will use the petrol up safely and you can then fill it up from another supplier and restart putting your foot down.

Also the engine has a knock sensor that will retard the ignition to reduce / stop the knock. If you don't change your driving habits and still continue to push the engine to the point it continually pings to the point of damaging the car's engine then YOU are to blame not VW or the petrol supplier.

Engine damage from continuous pinging takes time to occur. It is not like a timing belt breakage where Bang you stop. Engine dead.

I wonder if our forum member "sharp" is confusing an engine clatter with pinging.

My engine "clatters" when cold, irrespective of what fuel is in it. I have used both 95 and 98 ron and I fill up only when the tank is effectively empty.

        • Hi All,

My 140TDI will be arriving in Port Kembla soon. So until I get my hands on the car I keep thinking of questions, one of which is -

With the active info display can you display the current gear and the next pre-selected gear? This can help with driving a DCT.

          Thanks.

          • I got my 132 tsi w/ DAP 2 days ago. And only really drove it for the first time today.

Only complaint so far is the car feels a bit heavy, but it quite nice in sports mode. I wished the car was like that in normal mode! Otherwise, no complaints about the car so far. (not sure if others have said this already, didn't bother to go through the thread)

            Things i want to do:

I want to get a tint ( i think there was people talking about in the Tiguan forum somewhere?). Does anyone have any recommendations in Sydney for tinting?

And also i want to get bigger wheels and fatter tyres in the future. Is there any forums where people have modded their wheels/tyres? Just want to see what it actually looks like.

            Thank you

Edit: I feel the dealer put 95 in my car. I am sure 98 would run better. I personally prefer BP. Anyone have their preference on fuel brand?

There is a wheels thread but it's not very active so I guess no one has done it yet. I'm planning to upgrade mine. But I do have r line wheels currently which are 20's

Pretty sure bigger wheels and fatter tyres will make the car "feel" even heavier as the extra rubber on the road will surely make it a bit more effort to drive in bends etc. It probably will be an illusion, but I do think it will "feel" heavier.

Won't disagree with you there, i just have to try and find a lighter wheel in the future. Also, i came from driving a Evo, so that's why i felt it was slow . I went driving again tonight, getting used to the car and it was quite fun, especially in sports mode.

                    • Have had my car just under two weeks now, wanted to share some thoughts on it.

Have racked up the Kms much quicker than expected, have done 1650Km so far, just about to put the third tank of fuel into it. Fuel economy has been very good, better than expected. Been tracking it using the app Fuelly and averaging 9.1L/100km over the first two tanks, the car is telling me about the same so it seems to be pretty accurate.

Really noticed the car loosening up after about 400Kms, the engine is so smooth, revs easy and the kids are forever saying 'Dad' slow down when I give it a bit of a squirt. I've come from a very pedestrian X-Trail so they notice the difference in my driving. Does bring a smile to my face though

Mentioned it before but the interior lighting is so nice, very classy look. The LED headlights are fantastic, really lights up the road and the way they turn as you do makes driving safer.

Totally in love with Adaptive Cruise Control, use it everywhere, helps keep my speed under control and makes driving more comfortable. Really want TJA enabled as it's a pain having to resume all the time after sitting at the lights.

Although it's the middle of winter, so glad I added the Pano sunroof, the amount of light it lets in really brightens the black interior up on a dreary day. Do like the black interior but it is very dark.

Have gotten use to the firmer ride on the low profile tyres, doesn't bother me now and zipping through roundabouts is fun because of the stiffness of the platform.

Did a trip through the black spur last week using sport mode and had a blast, sticks to the road really well and engine was very willing.

Had been using the Apple maps for navigation via Car Play, but have been using inbuilt Nav now, like that it has speed signs showing and prefer the verbal notifications, find them more intuitive and easier to follow. Entering a destination is easier via CarPlay but with some prior planning it's no issue.

Put my bike in the back for the first time on the weekend. At first it didn't fit, but then remembered the front passenger seat folds flat and problem solved. Handy feature and allows some long loads to fit into the Tig.

Find the kick action boot works really well, hasn't failed me once, simply step up to it, single kick motion and step back to an opening boot. Also the interior boot open/close latch is handy, pull up out front of the school open the boot, kids load there bags in and then close it while they pile in, all from the front seat.

Am a fan of the seat warmers, they fire up really quick also the heater works well.

Did have the passenger side mirror set to point down while reversing, but it stopped working. Need to set it up again.

Car seems to be a bird poop magnet. Don't park under trees but birds seem to find it, also notice because it's all nice and shiny there is a stupid mudlark at work that keeps attacking it's reflection which annoys me no end.

Lane assist is an interesting system, when changing lanes to jump off the freeway, merging or turning left in general if I don't indicate you really feel resistance in the steering wheel to keep you going straight. Reiterates to indicate all the time which your supposed to do but if no one is around...

Don't know how I did it but have had smartphone nav on the DiscoverPro and car nav going on the AID, but most of the time all I see is a message smartphone Nav is in use on the AID, just being picky but I would like both

Haven't noticed any issues with the DSG not finding the right gear, haven't really used the paddles besides the blast the other day through the tight and winding Black Spur.

About to order a OBD11 to make some mods. Also going to remove the front number plate mount and install some home made bumper plugs, still tossing up whether to de-badge the rear. As luck would have it I saw another white R-Line on the road the other day, we were side by side for a short while and they had it done as well as adding an R badge to the rear, did look good.

Have run the vac over the interior a few times already, find that the small grit and sand comes out, in other I've cars owned it seems to get stuck so have been able to keep the interior nice and clean. Using the same Vacuum cleaner as well. So the weave of the carpet does make it easy to keep the interior clean.

The beeping when you're close to something is annoying, especially if you're stopped waiting at a drive thru. Glad you can silence it on the DiscoverPro as it'd drive me nuts otherwise.

Have a iPhone 7Plus and it's just a little to big to sit flat in the front cubby hole where the USB port is whilst it's plugged in, be nice if it was a little bigger.

Loaded all the station logos on the DiscoverPro and it looks better, dealership should have done that as part of the delivery process.

So glad I stuck with the Tig as I did waver whilst waiting for it, would like a little more power but don't we all, apart from that minor detail very happy with the purchase, now to get ALG and TJA enabled and I'll be as happy as a pig in poop.

cheers, mine is an MY17, got held up at the docks in Germany for a few weeks, little annoying that cars built four weeks later than mine turn up a week later than my delivery and they're MY18s, but it's here now and I'm enjoying it and that's the main thing!

Nice write up. I have only done just over 400km and must say the engine has opened up a bit. Loving it at this moment in time. Really up there with the premium brands and in some cases better too!

How did you get the logos loaded for the stations bud?

A 400x240 or smaller jpg, png or gif, the option is in the settings, you load them one at a time. There is a thread on here somewhere with some peoples compilations they've shared. When I get a chance I'll upload the Melbourne stations collected.
