BTW. My work colleague just went out and bought a 140 tdi r line with sun roof and DAP. It was a demo Unit. Had done 1500 km. He paid $60,000 drive away.
Nice buy.. he will enjoy being able to drive Sydney to Melbourne on a tank of fuel.. whilst looking pretty good.
I don't think Ive read a single person refer to their purchase of a Highline, as a Highline, in the 85+ pages of this thread!
However, someone who ordered a Comfortline adds the Luxury Pack for $5K (more than the R line option) - yet they all refer to the car as a Comfortline, not a luxury?
Get my angle? Yes? Great. No? All good.
Everyone calls it an R Line - but its a Highline. For the sake of forum harmony I will let it go . Its a small issue. Apologies if I ruffled any R line feathers.
I think it's because 162TSI Highline R-line is a bit of a mouthful
Also as the R-line option is only available on the Highline it's kind of implied anyway
In the previous gen Tig (and current Passat/Golf) you can option the R-line kit onto a number of trim levels (Comfortline, Highline). It's a pity they didn't offer this option for the gen2 Tiguan also.
I think the Comfortline + luxury pack is going to be a small niche for people that want a sunroof+folding mirrors but not LED headlights from the Highline. It's one of those funny combination things that you'd think that they could have just rolled into a Highline. Having said that it does make some sense to option the Lux Pack onto the 110TSI Comfortline as there's still a decent jump up to the 162TSI Highline.
In my Tiguan you can change it to sports mode for the gear box by tapping the gear leaver down when it's in drive (you'll note it says d/s). Sports mode using the mode selector changes more then just the dsg.
Ah, thanks for that - I hadn't noticed that you can tap if down further (I thought it was only across). Still, it would be nice if there was a quicker way of changing the complete driving mode to sport. Very minor detail though.
Yes Sydney based. I'll ask what colour when I next see him.

Ordered: 2017 build date Tiguan 162 TSI Highline with DAP in Tungsten Silver and rear luggage tray. ETA: late April / Early May. I did not have to wait. I took delivery on 11 March 2017.
The only reason I call it the R-Line is because it's easier than typing "Highline with R-Line pack" each time. My signature refers to it as just that though.
Still, while there's no special tune or upgraded brakes etc. it still does get some non-cosmetic upgrades (ADC and Progressive Steering) which affect the way it drives - so it's not purely cosmetic. Crucially though, there is no increase in performance which again, is why I get why it is not a variant in it's own right. Very different to an "R".
After saying all of that - in NZ it's actually called the R-Line (not Highline with R-Line pack), and there are a few members from NZ on here, so you'll have to excuse our NZ friends from calling it simply an R-Line
Thanks for reminding us Gladbach At least here in NZ the R-Line is marketed as an R-Line model not as a Highline with DAP, R-Line trim.... do I need to go on I might add that in South Africa you can order the new Tiguan 1.4TSI 2WD in R-Line trim WTF!!
To add insult to injury, I take delivery of my R-Line today Whoopee! after it arrived in the country on the 15th Dec. Been delayed by Christmas & New Year hols and also by the fact that I wanted rego in 2017 instead of 2016

Great to hear you're getting your R-line today, I'm collecting my R-line tomorrow! Pictures!!!
Welcome Paddydash, Price is great, and car you have chosen will be awesome. Since you are not a person who buys a new car everyday.. I'm assuming you will keep this bad boy for a while, so just an idea..
For an extra ~$4K, you can get the 162TSI + DAP.. this includes all the luxury features but no sunroof.
But you do get above the comfortline:
- Improved media headunit (I think its called the discovery pro model)
- LED front lights (changes the look of the car a little)
- 18 inch wheels (instead of 17)
- and more power from your engine 162 vs 132KWs.
I think there is a bunch of other little things.. anyway, for me, if I could have gotten the Comfortline 132 with LED lights, I would have got that.. but only way was to get the highline. This may not be an issue to you which is cool!
thanks Rexman - I thought the same but we def want the sunroof snd then the price shoots out to $6k more and we're already at the top of the budget. Our only real want is the led lights, I hate that they're not on the comfortline!!
Do you think they'll be available aftermarket?
Hi Redman.
The 140 tdi r line is black in colour. He hasn't finalised finance as yet. He expects that will be done by tomorrow.

The price of legally fitting LED/HID headlights is astronomical as you have to fit auto-levelers and washers which often involves purchasing a new front bumper. Of course what a lot of people do is just fit LED globes into the standard housings but this can be sub-optimal in terms of lighting the road (and not 100% legal).
If you want to get a fully legal set-up you're by far better off buying it as a factory option.
And yes I agree that it is not ideal the way the LED headlights have been optioned into Highline models only.
Not having LEDs in the comfortline give VW an up-sell opportunity. If they had the LEDs in the comfortline then you'd have many more customers simply applying the luxury pack to the comfortline, where they'd essentially get a highline with a 132TSI engine (with a sunroof as well).
What they could have done is option the LEDs in the comfortline so that when you add the Luxury pack and LEDs it becomes pretty much the same cost as a highline, which could encorage even more highline sales.
As for aftermarket - you never want to add HIDs or LEDs into halogen cases - they're not designed for them and you end up blinding other drivers. You could also end up getting pulled up by the police. I was reading a few months ago that NSW police had a crack down on these dodgy installs. The headlight washing unit is a bit of a lame rule though. I get the theory (dirty headlights can give them more glare) but I doubt anyone would ever be pulled up on it. If you were to add aftermarket full headlight enclosures without installing a washing unit (i.e. replacing the bumper) I think that would be fine.
After owning four VW's since 2005, each of them having really crappy halogen headlights I'm hoping the extra moolah I've coughed up for the Highline gives me lights that are decent. Previously, I was a Holden fan and they had terrific headlights that you could actually drive at night with. VW must have learned their stuff with the original Dr Darkness in the UK.
Please, those who have their Highlines now tell me that the lights are good.
