  • Thanks for the responses guys - might end up just sticking with my order (lands in late Dec so will have it mid jan), as the savings may not be huge after losing the deposit and i'll also have to wait a lot longer.

Good tips about inserting your own clause though, life lesson learnt.

    • How much of the purchase price could you pay by credit card? Would they charge you a fee to use a credit card? I'm interested in racking up as many rewards points as possible as part of the purchase process. It wouldn't really work out favourably if there was a processing fee of 1-2%.

      • Yeah they charge you a fee. I've tried this before

        • Better to go to the supermarket and buy 10 years supply of toilet paper. No fee. It keeps. And you know you will use it all eventually. [emoji1]

Ordered: 2017 build date Tiguan 162 TSI Highline with DAP in Tungsten Silver and rear luggage tray. ETA: late April / Early May. I did not have to wait. I took delivery on 11 March 2017.

          • Actually, just a point on this - they don't charge you a fee for the deposit, only the payment (well, my experience so far). So if you're prepared to may a higher deposit then you can get some more points that way. I paid a $3k deposit instead of $1k as I had the "subject to test drive" clause and therefore can cancel without losing my deposit.

But if you cancel and get refund. Don't you lose points?

                • Good suggestion regarding a larger deposit. Will keep it in mind.

                    • Has anyone had any further updates on delivery?

I have a 162TSI R-Line with DAP and Sunroof and received a "I've been built email" about 2 weeks ago but no update from dealer or further emails saying that it has been put on a boat.

I am hoping the "all deliveries delayed May" isn't true!

I am beginning to think I am being tracked! Just got a call from Maxxia who has been told that my car is on a boat for arrival mid Jan and delivery end of Jan.

She says they don't have a VIN yet and won't get one until Jan which doesn't sound right but could be just Maxxia not knowing what I am asking for.

Hopefully this gives some people some hope for earlier deliveries!

Ask for a printout from NADCON, that should give you all the details you require including when it was built and when it was loaded on the ship

                          • Something with this info doesn't sound right.

If the car is built and shipped or is due to arrive in Melbourne in January then a VIN has to be available if for no other reason that the VIN forms the freight ID for the car to get onto the ship.

The minimum shipping time is about 38 days. Our car left on December 1st and arrives in Melbourne on January 7th. If your are going to get your car in January in Melbourne I think there are only two ships likley to deliver it - the Don Carlos, currently off the west coast of Africa and due on January 7th and the Tamerlane- which is taking the longer route via the US, Fiji and NZ. This route takes about 50 days.

Our car is due in Melbourne on January 7th. We received the VIN about 1 week before it was loaded and confirmation of it being on the Don Carlos about 24 hours after it left Bremerhaven.

Ask for a NADCON print out or get the VIN. That is the only way you'll know what is going on.

Agreed. I remembering reading somewhere that if you ordered a car with the R-Line pack and sunroof it will be delayed...

                              • So I had an afternoon full of meetings after which I have now had a chance to consider the phone call and I agree something isn't sitting right.

I had received a call from the dealer direct in mid November saying that the middle of Jan delivery wasn't going to happen but they didn't know any further so this call was a bit of a surprise.

I have also got the email notifications from VW and it hasn't changed from "Built" to anything resembling shipped.

My theories are that Maxxia have been told wrong information from VW and are just passing the message on or that Maxxia want me to sign the final contract documents before the end of the year in order to meet some quotas and they are bending the truth to get me to do this. I was asked to complete the documents but I replied that I had a subject to test drive clause and will be awaiting that test drive before I sign anything. This has probably backfired on them because if they were honest and said it will be May then I probably would be going to get a GLA250 tomorrow and they would have signed documents by end of the week.

I am not too fussed on whether it is end of Jan or March or May now, I needed it for a post Christmas holiday and this hasn't happened so whenever it arrives next year, there is no real difference but I will speak with the dealer tomorrow and clarify with Maxxia, including getting the NADCON printout so that I can provide more accurate information for everyone here.

                                Thanks for all the advice!
