  • I have ordered/received my New Tiguan

I decided to Opticoat my Golf 3 years ago after reading this guy's experience.
It is interesting and worth signing up to the forum to read if you can't without registering:
GRAND FINALE -Optimum Opti-Coating - Durability Test Review!!!
6 month update - GRAND FINALE -Optimum Opti-Coating - Durability Test Review!!! - Page 3
1 year update - GRAND FINALE -Optimum Opti-Coating - Durability Test Review!!! - Page 9
16 month update - GRAND FINALE -Optimum Opti-Coating - Durability Test Review!!! - Page 15

As Tiggy said, the protection seems to fade with time. Usually by the end of 12 months the paintwork still beads but not on tight round beads like new. I have it touched up each year which is recommended by Opticoat from memory. This process by Elite Finish includes a full wash, decontamination, Stage 1 correction then an application of Opticoat. I can't remember how much it is for the yearly reapplication but its good value considering what is being done. I'm due to get the car in soon so will post up how much the yearly reapplication is.

    • Thanks veew and Tigger73

The pattern of use for our cars is the opposite to your description tigger - the current 2009 reflex silver Tiguan 147 for example has just turned over 40,000 km. The 5 year old Scirocco just over 30K. So neither car does a lot of road work but they do sit out and are not kept undercover.

The new tiguan is habanero orange (wife's choice) and I'm figuring it is going to look great (having seen one 'in the flesh' for the first time last week) but only if it's well looked after - hence the question. I think I've seen enough to examine this further and Elite are not too far from here. If I got 12 months or so out of each application and its keeps the paint bright and rich then it is probably worth it. I don't want the the new tigger looking like a 1970's burnt orange Torana in a couple of years time!

Valued your thoughts/experiences - thank you.
Scirocco: Indium Grey, DSG, pana roof, Sat/Nav, Dynaudio, VWR springs and APR stage 1. Now sold
Arriving April 17 Audi S3 sedan, Panther black, S-tronic, PP2, pano, matrix lights, assistance pack, 40:20:40 seats, mirror pack, light inlays

Tiguan: Tiguan 162TSI, DAP and pano in Habanero

Red and Orange cars are the most notorious for paint breaking down. Probably not so much these days, but red cars made in the 90's really suffered. I'm not the biggest fan of paint protection (a lot of them are expensive and don't last long), but a quality one for the Habanero Orange makes sense IMO.

I use Hamish @ Elite Finish as well. The car certainly looks a lot better after he's finished with it.

It depends what you're looking to achieve, how much you're prepared to spend and how much elbow grease you want to put in.

Previous cars I've bought a paint protection kit and applied myself, though I do think the job Hamish does is better.

          • I think it is worthwhile getting it done professionally to begin with and then taking the responsibility to ensure it stays in as good a condition as possible.

              • Hi,

Just wondering if anyone else has ordered the 162tsi R-Line, with DAP and Panoramic Sunroof around October last year and have been able to obtain a VIN number?

                Thanks

Contracts signed in July, ordered since September and still no VIN. According to NADCON data it is due to be built on the 27/1 so I expect a VIN soon after that.

I get that...just wasn't sure when they were getting built.

I signed my contract in August last year and received my VIN mid December. My car has been loaded onto the TUGELA which is due into Brisbane on 11 Feb. I suspect the sunroof option may be causing delays... I noticed the 162's for sale on carsales or from people here who have taken delivery of their 162's early seem to not have ticked the sunroof option.

Could be right, I've noticed the same... The waiting game continues! Cheers

Same here- same specs and same boat- my dealer accidentally ordered the car with sunroof for me and delivery was mid march- when we discovered the error (before my car was built) he changed the order and the delivery date changed to end Jan.. which is now 11 feb - it really looks like the sunroof causing delays
