  • I hope the MY17 Mazda CX5 will resolve the issue surrounding cabin noise. If that is ok and with the addition of apple car play (revamped infotainment system) I will lean back towards the CX5 over the Tig. The towbar is a must for me but no way in hell am i paying $1700 -1900 for a tow bar in the Tig! The CX5 one is about $1100.

      • Does the highline have the folding electric mirrors or do you have to get the R-line package?

        • Highline itself comes with power folding mirrors, no need for R-line.

As for Comfortline, you only get it with either of the 2 option packs ie. DAP or Luxury Pack.

          • Question about data if I may?

I have an Audi A6 Allroad, C7, with the 3G+ MMI system. I have a SIM card slot in the dash and the car uses this SIM card and the external antenna to allow data to feed into the car through the 3G network. It uses it for a Google Earth overlay of the Nav map, as well as online searches for addresses and lots of other niceties.

The Tiguan has the Discover Pro system if you stump up for the Driver Assistance Pack which is identical to that fitted to the face lifted A6 and Q7. The next generation of MMI to what's fitted to my A6. I read somewhere that the Tiguan has a wireless hotspot in the vehicle which implies that the car is somehow connected to the outside world.

My question is what sort of data connection does the Tiguan have, if any? It may have a slot for a SIM card somewhere, of it may be able to leverage data from a connected smartphone through app connect. Anyone who has taken delivery of one mind having a look through your manual for me, or having a play to see what's available on your car?

            • I thought you only got the Discover Pro with the Highline - Comfortline with DAP is only Discover Media

              • The Discover Pro is indeed only in the Highline (not part of DAP). Also, what you're referring to is CarNet, but the Aussie Tiguan's won't get it unfortunately, no idea why.

this is one of the reason I think we might cancel our order for the r line this weekend. I think we will either go for the jeep srt or a merc of some sort.... still unsure, I need to go back and sit in the Tiguan again because I'm loosing excitement and starting to regret my decision..this is what happens when you have to wait 6 months to even see the car you ordered in person

Don't get the Jeep. There are many reasons like high maintenance costs, spare parts pricing, etc, etc but the biggest one is that the cars are just plain unsafe. It's one of the a couple (Toyota Hilux being the other) that nearly rolled over doing the "moose test":

Compare it to what the Tiguan looks like:

                          Makes the choice pretty simple.

                            • Don't buy a Jeep because..... it is a JEEP!!

For the price of the SRT (which is almost double the 162TSI R Line) all you get is an engine over 3 times the size that isn't that much faster (0-100 is 4.9s vs 6.5s) yet will suck the tank and wallet dry much faster! At least you don't have to worry about missing out on technology that our countries get though as they just don't have anything, the best it can offer is a touchscreen radio and reversing camera and that is it. Not to mention the interior is just ugly.

Compare that with everything you get with the R Line for half the price plus a much safer car as it appears and that is an easy choice for me, even with the wait. Plus it is a Jeep!!

                              • Lol all the hate towards the poor old srt. Yer the srt is about 90 base but 110k fully optioned.

hmmmm the decisions are a struggle, first world problems.

speaking to my father the other day (works for nrma road side assist) and he pretty much begged me not to get a vw or merc, he goes too many deg problems as well as a lot of others. But I understand every car company has their lemons and faulty vehicles. The weird thing he said was that I should get a jeep, they don't have many call outs for jeeps it seems.

The mrs and I have decided to get one car about 100k and I will make do with my work car. If the new Touareg was due next year then we would wait for that, but we need at least one car bigger than the current cx5 and while the Tiguan is a little bigger, it may not be big enough. In saying all that, the deposit will stay on the tig untill or if we decide to go elsewhere.

Thanks for for those vids tigger I will look more into the safety of them.... but the test jeep was not an srt, just a standard jeep, as you would know, the srt has different suspension and all the adjustable technical things I don't even know what they are called.

nz_golf, they have basically all the same features as the tig, the only thing they don't have is lane keep assist, folding mirrors, self park and the active bonnet thing...... remember the old saying? There is no replacement for displacement lol
