Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

    • Hi, keen to purchase a new highline 162tsi with R line pack. I came across this article on a VW New Zealand dealers website today which talks about the Discover Pro being a 9.2" touchscreen in their R-Line model. Does anyone know if this screen size is available? I understand Aus Tiguans will be 8", but curious if this is a misprint or if NZ is getting some newer nav system.

Interesting. Looks like they also get the head up display which as far as I am aware the Oz market does not...happy to be proved wrong but cannot find anything to state that we do. I also know when I placed my order for the R-Line there are no towbars at this stage which is a bummer, I would love that electric one that pops down but as usual this does not meet ADR's so he we go with another dodgy towbar fitment which caused me all sorts of grief on my Gen 1

        • I emailed VW NZ to ask them and I got the following response:

"From our understanding from the factory our NEW Tiguan R-Line model will have the 9.2 inch screen. This is what we have been offered and ordered from the factory directly."

Which would suggest NZ is potentially getting the new Discover Pro which was previewed with the e-GOLF Touch at CES this year.

I wonder if other markets are just keeping quiet about this option as to not deter customers from purchasing a new Tiguan until this becomes available?

          • For those interested, published fuel economy stats for the 162 TSi are:

            Urban cycle: 9.70 l/100km
            Extra urban: 6.70 l/100km
            Combined: 7.80 l/100km

That's according to VW Sweden, Poland...

            • Approvals came through for the 140TDI yesterday.

Link to the petrol model approvals (110TSI/132TSI): Road Vehicle Descriptor (RVD1) Tiguan Petrol Models

Link to the diesel model approvals (110TDI/140TDI): Road Vehicle Descriptor (RVD1) Tiguan Diesel Models

The interesting thing is that the 110TSI and 110TDI both get the smaller front brakes.

The 132TSI and 140TDI (and assuming 162TSI) get fitted with the 340mm front brakes which is same as Golf R.

I understand why they'd fit the smaller brakes to the 110TSI as it's FWD and a lighter car. But it looks like the 110TDI may be a little under-braked - particularly if you're intending to use the vehicle for towing.

It's either an error in the approvals or a strange decision by someone at VW.

The 110TSI has the lower towing spec (1800kg) compared to all the other models (2500kg).

Again it's pushing people into the Highline model to get the spec you actually want.

                • It's a pity that you either have to get the highline or look at fitting the parts to get to the spec that you want/need. I would have thought the 110TDI would have been the model to go for if you wanted a base model for towing but it looks like you'll have to add a tow pack and brake upgrade.

Any news as to when the 162TSI will get approval?

No idea but given cars will be arriving early 2017 I would expect around October-November. It really depends when the specs are finalized and the paperwork goes in. Typically you'll see approvals come through ~3months before the model comes out.

If there's a new model coming that I'm interested in I'll check the government approvals site a couple of times a week. You don't get any information on model options but it's mostly just mechanical specs.

So will the 162TSI model be on the same approval as the other TSI models?

It would make some sense to add it to the existing approval but there's no guarantees that it will. Better off starting with a fresh search.
