  • E10 94 ron

When I was filling up today I noticed on the inside of the Tiguan Petrol flap it says 95 RON and E5 and E10

I always put 95 RON Petrol into the Tiguan

As the Petrol Flap had the E10 sign, I assume that means the Tiguan maybe able to take E10 ?

The Petrol station has E10 at 94 RON. Does that mean the Tiguan can take E10 (94 RON) ?

I'm guessing both conditions would have to be met - as our E10 is only 94 RON I'd say no. Overseas there must be E5 or E10 available that is 95RON or higher...

Absolutely NOT As said above it is a MINIMUM of 95 Octane so E10 does not comp;y in AUS In fact when I asked VW about it

There used to be 100 Ron E10 in SA at one time but no more it seems

      Thank you for your email.

Volkswagen only recommend the use of 98 or 95 as minimum. We do not recommend any other type of fuel to be used, including E10.

So use it at your peril cos if you have a motor problem and VW do a fuel test (and they will) they will wipe you completely.

Thanks guys for the confirmation. Seems like I will need to stick with the more expensive 95 RON.

With fuel costs continually rising, looks like my next SUV will be 91 RON, PHEV 91 RON or Fully EV
(Mazda CX-60 vs Tesla Model Y vs Hyundai Ioniq 5)

Your OBDeleven wont work on any of them LOL

Is amusing that someone buys a Euro car knowing it needs a more expensive fuel and then growls about it in several posts

Also from one of your earlier posts you say when you shut your doors the car locks and the mirrors fold. If so you must have auto locking enabled as I can shut our 2 cars doors and mirrors stay out and car doesnt lock.

I tried one out but don't own an OBDeleven. You must be really bored to go through people's past posts

When I bought the Tiguan, Petrol was much cheaper. I am not like fanbois who are wedded to particular brands.

The Tiguan 162 was the best in its class when I bought it at the time. (0-100 in 6.9sec).

Now the market has moved on and I don't see the current version of VW cars being anything special.
If anything I would say their foray into EV's have been a failure. Telsa, Kia and Hyundai are making the best EV's atm.

I expect the new Mazda CX-60 3.3L Turbo will offer a better proposition than the VW equivalent of bang for buck.

Go through some of his old posts You'll see a track record of a grumpy person who seems to find it impossible to be polite and friendly.

Not sure whether a CX60 is a good proposition but each to their own. What is worth pointing out is that in Australia only 95 and 98 have a sulfur content low enough for the catalytic converter to do its job. 91 and E10 are at best junk due to the ridiculous standards here.

We had a 162TSI with the APR stage 1 and it went really well, made something like 500+Nm and 230kw at the crank. Now we bought the Tiguan R with the new engine/turbo and are about to have that tuned as well. Try to do that with a CX60.

What is the cost of the Tiguan R + tuning?
                  What 0-100km/h do you get?

If you are after real straight line acceleration with linear torque you may want to consider a Tesla Model Y Long Range (or Performance)

Even stock the Tiguan R will do 0-100 in 5.2s. No other SUV under $120K can match that.

Any of those "performance" Teslas will in 10 sequential runs only beat the R 2-3 times and that is if run 1 was at 100% battery capacity. The ECU in the Teslas starts restricting performance even after 1 hot start and continues to wind back performance every single start after to protect and conserve the battery.

Standard Model Y (non-performance) on the Nurburgring. Worth watching the acceleration and speedo.

Not sure what you were trying to say there .... there was nothing impressive there, other than the driver who is pretty good. The Tesla is seriously meh ...

I like the idea of electric and all the possibilities it brings, just still not really cost-effective and I still see it as more of a second car... although in saying that I think I would drive the EV for work and round town keeping a larger seven-seater something for long haul family trips and weekends.

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.

Wanted to highlight that in many Nurburgring video's, the Tesla's battery overheats after 1 lap and then the power drops dramatically.

Same on the Silverstone track as well.

                              Aah, gotcha.

Which is pretty much what I was saying, the Tesla's have a very limited time window after charging to deliver the often quoted performance numbers. After some spirited driving it drops off dramatically, leading to performance that even my Up! can beat Certainly when i'm in my R (which is mid 3s 0-100 proposition) I'm not in the least intimidated when a Tesla Performance stops next to me

I've been looking hard at the Cupra Born as a daily commuter, quick not fast and still a VW (under the skin) and an EV that actually looks good. Ended up sticking with a petrol car for the next few years as I'm not convinced that EV's are quite ready for my requirements, perhaps in 3-5 years I'll add an EV to the stable.
