Interim Service?

Hi guys

Just received a letter from the dealer where I purchased my Tiguan, saying to book in for an interim service. Is the first service time based or km based? I'm sure it is 15000kms? I've only done 3500kms in 6 months....

The interim service isn't the same as a scheduled service, the car will just have a few checks done to ensure everything is ok, there won't be an oil change.

It sounds to me like it's an initiative from that dealer as most just go by the VW standard of 12 months or 15,000kms.

There's nothing wrong with doing it, and it gives you a chance to raise any questions or concerns with the dealer you may have.

Personally I recommend getting a proper service done earlier at 7,500 where oil is changed.

It’s them making some money. Useful for you, if the car is purely a peak hour city car.
If you frequently check fluid levels and the car isn’t mainly a short drive/peak hour traffic car, don’t bother.

If the car is 6 months old the letter will be about an oil change "interim" service surely. Many new cars have a 1 month or 1000-1500km check up, but you have well exceeded this time period.

Im guessing that VW is trying to sell you a 6 month oil change which although good to have fresh oil in the engine, will not count as a regular 15,000km / 12 month service.

Yep that's what i do. I have a mechanic do a log book service every 12 months and then i do a oil and oil filter change at the 6 month interval.

Yep same regular service at 15k intervals and a oil and filter at the 7.5k mark for my piece of mind

Yeah i have a diesel which is tuned with the fuel contamination in the oil that happens from the DPF regeneration i just feel that 15k is to long to wait for a oil change esp as i want it to last over 300k

In that case it sounds like an easy money grab to me. They do nothing to extend the life of the engine (car) and the rest except the brake pads and oil level check, which is done visually and anyone can check these themselves in the blink of an eye. The car is designed to be serviced once in a year and many only once in the 2 years, the critical part the engine oil is left there to wear out your engine especially if you drive short trips/ under severe driving conditions and the reason is clear, just to get people to buy a new car sooner.

It seems to me, that some don’t like to get their hands dirty, but still wants make more money.
