Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

    - APR Stage 2 Tune
    - APR AWD Cast Downpipe
    - CTS Turbo Inlet Pipe
    - CTS Turbo Muffler Delete
    - K&N Air Filter & Snow Grate Removed
    - ECS Silicone Inlet Hose & Airbox Mod
    - ECS Subframe Mount (Dog Bone)
    - GFB DV+ (Diverter Valve)
    - Forge Motorsports Turbo Blanket

Have also done my own personalisations via OBD11 and professionally upgraded the speakers to Morel Splits (F&R) with a DB Euphoria Sub for extra ‘doof-doof’...

Brutal performance with a soundtrack to match! ... Next stage, an IS38 Upgrade with a TCU Tune and APR Exhaust Crackle! 🤙[emoji41]
Hi Azza, congrats on your mods! Keep us posted on how the turbo blanket goes, I think that’s a first for most of us. Looking forward to hearing your reviews of the IS38 and TCU tunes.

      Hi all,

I’ve had a CEL on an off for a little while that may be tune related. A ticket has been raised with APR support USA to investigate. In the meantime I’ve flashed back to the standard APR IS38 v1.1 tune without pops and bangs.

I was interested to see whether there was any noticeable performance difference. My bum dyno said no, however I had a chance to do a vbox run on Friday night and I was pleasantly surprised that I vboxed 4.2s 0-100km/h. This is a 0.1s improvement on my previous best of 4.3s.

I will keep everyone posted on how this tune goes and if APR support provides an update.

That's probably why I haven't been able to get my hands on that tune... FWIW not a single CEL on mine it's going great!

Are you using a 02 sensor spacer?

I am still having CEL issues with my Stage 2 with spacer. CEL goes off then come back on after a few days, getting a new file tomorrow to see if its finally fixes it.

Yeap, I’ve installed a Vibrant J spacer. This is meant to deal with the Cat efficiency CEL. The other CEL is related to O2 running lean, which I believe is tune related. Since flashing to the new tune, it’s been quite stable.

I have had both CEL error also.. Seems there are some code differences / slightly different ecu with the MK7 GTI as they dont seem to have the issue.

Tuner O/S on holidays atm, doing next Tuesday. Usually takes 3-4 days for CEL to reappear if it wishes to reappear

So my CEL decided to go off by itself again yesterday....

Watched this video last night of a turbo modification factory in Germany, lots of Golf MK7 turbos in their factory for rebuilts and upgrades. Mentioned TT500 turbo for the MK7 which they are working on.

Maybe your Tig was adapting to the the mods, that is good news about CEL, fingers crossed for you.

A hybrid IS38 would be amazing on the Tig, 500 HP would be pushing the limits of the stock engine. Although The Turbo Engineers have a number of hybrid turbos including the TTE610 which is rated upto 620HP fot a GTI or Golf R.

Yeah but we get the DQ500 which is a big plus. There's definitely a limit to how much boost you can run with stock internals though.

Its gone off my itself twice and come back on, I wont hold my breath this time. Usually CEL you need to clear with VCDS or similiar.

MRC in the UK are running 600hp hybrid turbos on stock engines (with meth though), gotta wonder about how long they last till they go bang...

An OEM+ Stage 3 Tig (or any is38 hybrid) would be crazy!
