i'd never have thought to use those. I currently have bumper plugs coming to me in the post, but may look at alternatives.

Yeah the good thing about bumper plugs is they come pre-painted.
The only bad thing about them is that they stick out a bit from the bumper as they are rounded rather than flat.
To do it properly I really need to get a spray can of paint matched paint and spray a sheet of stickers. The finish on the stickers will then be a lot better but from 2m it still looks OK now.
This is the outcome when tigger73 has the right paint and helps an old buddy out a couple of days ago:

This is the result you get with a can of colour matched spray paint and do it properly. The finish on the sticker dots is pretty good and only thing you could do better is to take the bumper off and get the holes filled and bumper sprayed at a crash shop.
It just depends how far you want to go. This is the $50 solution.
