Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Without reading the manual, I’m assuming it’s the angle the low beam swings. The light you’re thinking of is the static cornering lamp.

Theres a choice or Eco, Normal and Sport, but I'm not sure what it is adjusting?

I don't think it's the speed at which the cornering lights come on. They seem to light up around <35km/hr when indicator is on regardless of which setting I choose.
This is the light assembly I have

And finally, as part of the OP's observations, I didn't think too much about the headlights being a bit low until over ANZAC weekend I was away in country NSW, and really noticed in dimly lit roads how low they were...
I need to get around to bumping them up slightly
How do you arrive at that screen which so far I havent seen in my fiddling

Just press the drive select button until you get to “individual” and then select “change” and it brings up this menu to customise the settings.
Not sure if the settings differ between comfortline and highline models...

What BS, I adjusted mine 4 weeks into owning the car.

Then again dealers/service tech guys are all young apprentices (majority). I had a sticky beak at the team at VW Liverpool (NSW) and most of the techs look like they've just finished Year 12. Also my mate was a master tech at Skoda/VW and same deal, his team was made up with 90% inexperienced kids.

Agreed. I just ended up adjusting mine by myself. They didn't even suggest the option of a manual adjustment.

If I was to take my car to a respected Indy VW mech (instead of dealer), will that void my warranty? Very aware of the high inexperience in workmanship at the dealers..

Nope, as long as they are a qualified mechanic, use all OEM parts and/or VAG/VW approved fluids then your warranty stands as-is

That is not always the case and in today's world the dealer generally has far more knowledge though everyone will tell you that is not the case. You certainly cannot get software updates from anyone but a dealer and a lot of stuff is impossible for anyone but a dealer to deal with.

Really, any update at all VW will give to anyone? I find that very hard to believe. A lot of things have changed in 9 years I would reckon. How would those updates get delivered and applied when it is in VW speak on their systems, Snapon reader?

There are at least 10 brands of the dedicated pass through boxes available. I’ve used Autologic back then and applied sw updates to every control module across the vag cars many times.
Today, I use Bosch KTS570 and also have Gscan2 that works also as the path through box. All you need is the subscription.

You said that VW will give you the updates. So any update is obtainable from VW by any technician?

Also - screw clockwise = raise beam? Anti-clockwise = lower beam?
Presumably you are talking about the white screws about 12mm diameter with the Torx head set vertically on each light unit.. How much of a turn does it need to lift them a bit??? TIA

                                Anticlockwise = raise beam
