  • Start/Stop Button - Temperamental

Well the saga continues with my 2020 VW T-ROC 140 TSi Sport and now the Start Stop Button has decided I'm only going to work when I decide to ..... 1st push may get it working or 2nd, light touch or firmer = me thinks it is telling me I need a new one.

Found this thread on here which was Tiguan related and helpful https://www.vwwatercooled.com/forum/...on#post1786442 ..... post by Lucas_R (#3 I think) helpful with a part # and supplier but link didn't work.

Seems that finding info out for the T-ROC (like with the Steering Immobiliser) is proving adventurous to say the least ..... becoming wary of driving as do not want another scenario with towing back to dealer.

Was wondering seeing the MQB Platform is mentioned with VW models if the T-ROC uses the same Start Stop Button as the Golf & Tiguan?

Not the best time of year for this to happen but will try calling a dealers spare parts and see if they got a part number and stock - VAG Parts site is next to useless for the T-ROC

Try this number 5G2959839A. Lists as RHD T-ROC but seems to be same as Golf 7. Plenty online.

Thanks for that - seen them on ebay and other sites when searched for, but all located overseas or Chinese take offs ..... always go for oem with theses sort of parts.

Automotive Superstore at Castle Hill has Vemo brand for $163. Vemo are a German company and probably used by VW. After all it's the oem part that is now failing so it's better than $240 from dealer.

I'll check out the Superstore as bought the Brembo Rotors and Ceramic Pads for the T-ROC from them. Gave them a thought but didn't think they'd have one.

Called Austral VW Parts and was quote $238.00 and was given part no. 5G2959839B 3Q7.... plenty in stock as "it's a popular part requiring replacement".

Only real difference I can see is that the VW Part has a metal silver cap while these others have a plastic silver cap.

A 2020 should have had a 5 year warranty? Any chance of a good will claim since it's gotta be pretty close to that time?

Assuming you're considering DIY otherwise, how hard is it to get out/in? I'd be tempted by a non genuine part if it's easy enough (and keep the old one in the glove box just in case) when I'm seeing options on AliExpress for around $10!...

...That said, the part numbers are all over the place, however this seems to say it fits a Mk7 Golf and so does this on AliExpress?? Are they different? Is it just a simple switch with LEDs? Is it worth the gamble?

Peace of mind will cost you $238

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.

Thanks Hawk ..... 5 year warranty ran out on 13th September and after the 7 week wait to get the warranty claim for the Steering Immobiliser replaced (1 day after 5 Year service) there's a questionable time frame VW will take on this.

I'm not impressed about it but option with most things T-ROC there is limited info on the web as to replacing it - could ask for a goodwill fitment by the dealership I use if I buy the part from them ????

Mine's been playing up lately too - am going to visit the dealership next week and get it booked in for resolution. From what I've read, earlier versions of the stop/start switch certainly cause problems.

I looked up on 7Zap and the part number listed for the Troc is: 5G1959839A3Q7

It's listed as being valid from 17.08.2022 onwards.

If the genuine ones are being problematic, I certainly wouldn't be buying a knockoff from Aliexpress etc. Vemo on the other hand, they're an OEM supplier so would be generally okay with. But mine is still under warranty so VW can sort it.

Pulling the console is tricky. You have to lift the rear of the centre section (the part that houses the drive mode selector) and it pops out on its clips. From memory you need to unhook the mode selector from the harness to turn the panel sideways so you can access the torx fasteners (x2) that hold down the back of the main console. At some point (I can't recall which) you'll need to turn on the ignition so you can move the gear selector to D so you have working room to pull up the main part of the console trim. In order to get to the start stop switch, I honestly can't remember if you have to entirely remove the main trim or not. If you do, you'll need to disconnect all the buttons (start/stop disable, ESC etc) from the harness.
                  Cheers

                      Thanks Flipper & Doc

Spoke to the dealer yesterday about claim on VW, but after the Steering Immobiliser warranty replacement taking 7 weeks I hold little comfort in a quick resolution as the part would need to be sourced from the warranty bin and not the spare parts bin - yup that's crazy and that's VW's thought process.

After looking again @ the T-ROC console and with the 12v light socket, Mode Selector and Start/Stop, I'm biting the bullet and booking it in to the dealer workshop as "hopefully" they've done it before and it should only take 30 minutes max to do and they should have the correct tools to do it. Faulty one I'll ask to be handed back and I'll give it a clean and hold as a spare as hopefully it's only dirty contacts, but we'll see.

On another note with the VW Roadside Assist and my claim on them for towing damage back in September to the 2 front wheels - persistence paid off and I got a quote from VW for 2 of the 19"x8 Suzuka Wheels Part # 2GA601025F NQ9 @ $1,445.00 each + GST. Have submitted the formal quote totalling $3,179.00 to them but hold little hope, so it'll be a Customer Care complaint to follow.

Here's a video of how it's done (from the Tiguan Section) 2018 VW Tiguan Engine Start Button Removal

Looks "owner" friendly to do and doable but I bit the bullet and booked it in with the dealership for replacement on the 8th ..... I'll & see if their wait room coffee is any good while they do it.

That looks like an easy one to get at should you want to try yourself.

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.
