  • Settling in with JB4 on the car for a few hundred K's now
Driving around town normally without jumping on the throttle it drives exactly the same, wouldn't even know it's there!
With extra throttle applied the difference in torque is immediately noticeable, with the car being more responsive and the push back into the seat bringing a smile the face (forget about full throttle in 1st and most of 2nd)
Putting the car into sports mode is a different beast altogether, mashing the throttle at freeway speeds is highly addictive and very bad for the licence!
Can't wait for lakeside happy laps to log a few wot runs in 3rd and 4th to get map 6 set up!

      • You bought it for an R so I take it not suitable for a GTI?

        • I've now run the jb4 canbus cable via the passengers side grommet - was a bit of a pain and removing the battery made it much easier.

Makes the exercise of completely removing from car much more time consuming than a jb1.

I just plan to coil it up and tuck behind dash / battery when it goes to Skoda - they would have to be on a serious mission to find it and even then it's just a cable that's not connected to anything

Agreed, its staying in the car for sure during service, very easy to hide away. I've got a giant DP anyway, that's a bit easier to spot!

Did you end up changing your centre resonator?

Nah it stayed in, i did not want a noisy car. R wagons have a decent sound as is.

The R600 intake and IC made the car intake sound increase considerably. Sounds like darth vader now.

                  • What's the pros/cons for running the JB4 calbe via the passernger or driver side grommet? I thought going via the driver side is cleaner as it doesn't involve passing the cable from the passenger footwell to the driver footwell. Does the cable passing behing the turbo (as described by Burger Motor Sports) really overheats it?

I've swapped from driver to passengers side, my cable was getting heat affected. My aftermarket DP was not helping the situation though. Its more difficult to get in although a much neater solution via the passengers side.

                            IC? Intercooler?
I have opened up my intake and done the turbo muffler delete, gives a bit of extra sound which is nice, but nothing too crazy
My Mazda had a full cold air intake that sounded terrible with the bypass valve constantly bleeding air back through it

Really want to do a bit more research before I start mucking with the exhaust - don't want a boy racer sound or noisy interior
About as much noise as the stock Golf R would be ideal

The JB4 is worth getting, smoother particularly off idle and more progressive, more control over management and obviously will be upgraded with firmware going forward. I think the cash back is finished however best check with George at BMS (You will need to route the OBD cable through the firewall best behind the battery)

                              • Not to sure if anyone else experienced this, but disconnecting my battery to install the JB4 my fuel economy turned to absolute rubbish for a few tanks, now onto my 3rd tank since the install and it has returned to what I was achieving previously (running Map 2 currently)
