  • Upgraded from JB1 to JB4 this afternoon and it's a step up from the JB1 very smooth particularly from low revs, only on map1 so far, fantastic! full logging on the JB4 mobile app also.

Ooohhh, can't decide on the mobile app - but the on screen display in the car and logging when needed may just tip me over

How did you route the canbus wire?

I had previously run the JB1 serial / usb cable through the spare grommet behind the battery I used this to feed the OBD cable also. George from BMS has instructions for RHD OBD installation which can use an existing grommet behind the peddles.

          https://www.autoinstruct.com.au/manu...-the-firewall/

          Grommet behind the battery

          (Advantage)

It is a spare grommet not used for anything else by default therefore could be replaced later.

          (Disadvantage)

The OBD cable connection will be under the dash which means to remove the JB4 and harness for servicing you need to pull the OBD cable through the grommet.

          Grommet near pedals

          (Advantage)

OBD cable connection is in the engine room therefore to remove the JB4 and harness there is no need to route back and forth through the grommet.

          (Disadvantage)

I think other stuff is using this grommet therefore it would be difficult to replace if need be (correct me if I'm wrong on this one)

Nice work - have you gotten the mobile app working through CarPlay yet?

            • Man I am kicking myself for not getting on board with this earlier... Picking a 15MY Golf R in a few weeks and it would be awesome to have a JB4 ready to go. Any way I can get in on this? I saw in earlier posts confirmed orders are cut off at 3rd January?

I am using the micro USB OTG adaptor from my mobile to the JB4 so you would need the JB4 Bluetooth connector to free up the micro USB on the mobile. Personally I don't need to look at those guages all the time but handy to have the ability to change maps logging on the fly also select different parameters transmission temp etc.

Good info. Thanks. I ended up using the grommet behind to the pedals, it come out just behind the DP between heat shielding. I added heat shrink to the cable to help protect it and ran it in the o2 sensor clips to the JB unit on the battery. I also routed the cable behind the steering column and hid up under the dash. Only issue is the cable is a little short so restricts the JB unit placement.

Just on map 1 for now. Car is just as strong as the old map 1 from JB1 and thats with .8 less psi. Impressive! I also have DP, IC etc.

                    • Oh sweet, so that is different from the JB4 adaptor?
Do you have link to it?

                          • Question - So with the new JB4 can we now make adjustments to maps, toggle between maps and turn it off using the car steering wheel buttons or will this be available with a future software update to the JB4 module?

Only reason I ask is my neighbor has JB module in his BMW that has the feature which seems cool

                              Hey mate,
From what I've read on the other forums, vwvortex, they haven't been able to hack the vw dash controlers.
You still need to use the data cable or wireless/phone app.
