Count me in! JB1 + cable - Mk3 Octavia RS

Might be worth while posting this on vwgolf.net.au if we fall short on numbers - FYI, I've notified the Octavia RS people on vwwatercooled.

    Many thanks for organising!

Wow. This sounds very impressive for a black box tune.
What do you guys expect to do with the data interface? Dyno testing?

You will need the cable to switch between maps (the unit comes pre-configured with Map1 which is pretty much good to go for anyone). You'll also want the data cable if you want to make minor tweaks to Map1, or to fine tune/configure Map6 which is the "do what you want" map. The data cable can also be used to log various bits of information to ensure everything is running smoothly, though most people only tend to really use it for this purpose if they are chasing maximum gains and fine tuning for bolt on parts (intake, down pipe etc)

For the price is is a very impressive unit and does exactly as it says on the lid

The standard JB1 settings are MAP1 with +4.8 Boost Safety. Burger Motorsports have suggested with 98 RON fuel we can increase the Boost Safety to +5.0. For those with manual vehicles wanting to run +5.0, MAP6 default settings should be used. This reduces low end boost to protect your clutch.

If anybody want's to push the limits, go MAP6 and set 5500 and 6000rpm to +5.2.

Above is the simplest way to get the most out of the JB1, all using the data cable. From there you can tweak to your own desires in 500rpm increments within MAP6.

I'm interested in this group buy. I won't be able to confirm funds until close to the due date though.

I'd be up for the data cable too for my Mk7 R.

                    Just FYI peeps.

Excellent little unit but if you're manual and get it id save ~1500-2k for a clutch.

The stock clutch is balls. Mine started slipping not long after 10000kms and that was driving preservative on a custom map 6.

That being said, it is an excellent plug and play unit. Just thought I'd make sure people are aware

I'm mildly interested and have heard all the pros but what are the cons of a unit like this? For instance would I then require a DSG tune or would this then highlight and magnify any potential component weak points due to increase in power an torque? Anyone have any previous experience with known issues?

No significant cons. It still isn't as good as a tune for outright power. DSG tune isn't required but can makes the shifts nicer.

As for damaging anything, unless you got s lemon car then you'll be fine. These engines are designed to take a hell of a lot more power than what a JB1 puts out. You're not stressing any components.

Don't know about the GTI but on the Clubsport's engine, the gains were identical to the APR gains for the Golf R/S3 and way better than ABT's results (with the Clubsport). They hit 370ps/500Nm, just on map 1, that's as good as I've ever seen from any software remap on CJX engines.

stage 1 power and torque increases are minor for the engine's tolerances, it is only manual transmission cars that have clutch slippage but I thought all OZ Clubsports are DSG anyway? No need to worry in that case.
