'Had my little Hitler pull me up in some traffic yesterday. Seems I didn't properly close the driver's door as I rushed out of the parking lot into some thick traffic. Came to the first set of lights, low and behold, we failed to proceed (cue horns in the background). Received first message from dash display : place gear lever in Park. Ignored that, or course. More horns. Looked around for some help from who-bloody-knows-where ? Looked down to see park brake had activated. Had the wisdom and foresight to release with a push down of the button. Horns become lights. Looked to see next message from HAL : image of a big red driver's door fully opened from little picture of a Golf. Closed door to proceed once again, much to the sheer delight of my fellow motorists.
So glad the new safety systems of Golf 7 had a big part to play in my purchase !
2017 - Golf R 7.5 - Blue - DSG - Proper Roof - DAP - Res' delete - Dynaudio delete
2008 - Mazda 2 - (Maybe my first child scared me a bit) -1998 - Wrx (modded up to but not including forged pistons)
1988 - Corolla TwinCam - (couldn't insure a 323 Turbo)
1967 - Tonka Tip Truck - Red with 2 inch plastic rims and a massive sand scoop.
Great news. My friend at Latrobe Valley VW is going to fit a factory tow bar to the car!! OK, I have to fork out $500 because the exhaust has to come off to fit it then be re-installed. A permit to move (their cost) gets me to NSW where the rego will be less than Vic. He will pick me up at the airport too! Total cost (including air fare) $2,000 less than advertised drive away without tow bar; i.e. $61,990 . I think that is a good outcome considering. Interestingly I also looked at a BMW M235i and Mercedes AMG45 and neither was rated for towing. My fallback was an Octavia RS 245 which had a lot of pluses going for it but FWD is not one of them. It has to be AWD or RWD. Torson AWD is my first pick but the choice is Subaru or way more than I can afford) so Haldex it is.
Has anyone seen the new updates from Jan MY18 for Golf GTI+R yet? Pedestrian Monitoring has been made standard, and the Assistance Package now includes Traffic Jam Assist, Emergency Assist and Lane Assist with Adaptive Lane Guidance.
It doesn't specify a MY18.5 or anything, so I was just curious if anyone has picked up a new MY18 R or GTI and has those features. Arteon is a bit too exp, so I am excited to hear that the tech from that has trickled down.
btw quick reminder
- Emergency Assist is where if the driver is non-responsive, it'll basically slow the car down in its lane and turn on the hazards.
- Traffic Jam Assist is just supported slow driving in clearly marked roads and congestion.
- Adaptive Lane Guidance is added functionality to the Lane Assist, in which it provides active lane-keeping on top of just reactive lane departure assistance.
- Unlike Audis, VW models do not specify a 'check-box' for the driver to turn on/off EA or TJA. So the only way you'll know you have those features if there is a 'check-box' for Adaptive Lane Guidance.
Also really love the 18* Seville's in Black with the Red accents on the 'GTI Original' too but can't do with the three door *yuck so I wonder if it'll make the accessories brochure...
Also, you can build Golf R wagon on the Oz website.

I guess I don't know for certain. The VIN only shows you the model year in whole numbers (e.g. 17, 1 not halves (like 17.5, 18.5).
Cheers. Golf MY18 brochure uploaded on VW Australia website in Nov 17 has no mention of TJA. It is however in the MY18.5 brochure loaded in January 18. So I was trying to figure out the build week that the changeover happened.
