Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

I am 90% committed to buying a GTI 2018 Auto.

Roughly how much would I be able to negotiate for a 2018 gti with all the options... current no haggle price is $54000 inc DA, metallic paint, luxary and infotainment in DSG.

Would it be possible to get to $50000 drive away or I'm I being too optimistic? I think 10% is achievable?

Can anyone share their experiences with haggling.

      Thank you
We got our Grey MY18 GTI all options for 52000. We could have gotten down to 49K IF we could wait until April. The car we bought was the only one in stock, brand new in the state at the time and just happened to be a 3 hour drive away so was too good to pass up.

      • Anyone bought a fully loaded R (non Wolfsburg) recently? If you have, what price did you get (if you don't mind sharing)?

I went through some 100 kph s-bends, that need up to a quarter turn on the steering wheel, without touching the thing. It's quite an impressive system. Until the lines run out
I tried mine out on some sweeping single lane 80kmh bends today. I was unimpressed - it would run outwards until it was nearly on the line, then jerk backwards towards the centre, the run outwards again etc etc, not smooth progress at all. It was obviously trying to keep me in the lane, but only intervened when it was nearly out of the lane.

            • Dumb question, but I'm still getting used to Euro steering stalk placements. Is there a fixed setting where the lamps just stay on high beam on these auto-headlamps of ours (not that I particularly want to blind anyone coming towards me) ?

              • Yeah just push the left hand stalk forward to engage high beam

Pull it back to just flash someone i.e warning about speed camera

                • I flashed someone who was driving at 40km in a 100 zone (I guess they didn't see the 100 sign leaving town) and noticed the lights seemed to blink rather flash. Has any noticed this?

Might have to stand in front and get the gf to flash me a few times.

Then we can test the high beams.

Oh and probably should test the cars lights too I guess. :p

Cool. Thanks. And to engage the auto-dipping-high ?

IIRC you need the light switch(dash) on auto, light stalk (steering column) pushed away from you, dark, and be travelling above a certain speed ( I can't remember how fast - it's probably in the manual somewhere).

                      • If the high beam signal is white with an A in it, then high beam assist is on. Then I think it's above 60-65 the highs will come on and adapt to traffic, street signs and street lighting on the road.

                        • has anyone ordered the Golf R in Wagon and can share timeframes?

I get that we have the Grid while there is limited leather and interactive display, but if you want an R Wagon (with driver assist) how long are we going to be waiting? (wife wants leather/heated seats...)

                          • One month in, 1057km and still halfway on my first refuel.

This is the most accomplished VW I have yet owned. The interior is awesome and media player the best I’ve sampled on a production car. It’s comfy and super quiet.

My partner picks up their Tiguan R-Line next week - looking forward to more VW magic 😀

                            • Picked up my R the day before Australia Day and have about 300kms on the clock now. Going to drive down to Melbourne in a few weeks so I'm hoping to run the engine in before them (can't wait to use ACC).

Question: where are the headlight washers (I'm not near my vehicle right now)? On my Mk6 GTI there were very obvious rectangular "cutouts" in the bumper for the pop-up washers, but these are absent on my R. Do they pop out from the circles that look like parking sensors?
