Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. • That grey looks the best I think.

Does anyone know what the “Race" sport cloth and Alcantara seat upholstery” are like, is there any current models that I could get a look/feel.

Keen to pre order a Grid, just hope the seats are ok (not velour like)

Have a question about the MY18 Golf R.
I have heard that the Dynauido is available as an option on the MY18.
      Is this true?
And what else is different about the MY18 vs MY17?

@Facelift, you’re right! Coding issue. Brought my car in this morning and have it fixed before noon.

Good that it was just a coding issue! It is strange that the coding gets messed up if battery is disconnected (in my case) or for no reason (in your case)! Lets hope it doesn't happen again.

Yeah fully agreed! In all fairness, my battery might have gone flat, I hardwired my dashcam to it and set the regulator to a minimal 12v cutoff. Acc to the technician, the side assist & blind spot coding somehow “disappear” and they have to reload the relevant coding in again. They said they had a couple of cars coming in for similar issue so hopefully this fixes it.

            • Hey guys - posting in here because it's a lot more active than the CC/Arteon thread - but I've got a question.

Those of you with the Golf GTI/R - when you bring up your digital performance gauges (boost, oil temp, Kw etc) - what does your boost read when you're off throttle or the car is idle? In the Arteon I'm always reading positive pressure whether the car is idle, or if I'm coasting. I'm not sure if this is normal as in previous cars that have had mechanical boost gauges that were tapped into the plenum, off throttle was always a negative pressure.

So my 2 questions are - is anybody having the same experience as me, and, does anybody know why it always reads positive pressure?

Yep - that's not an error - all our cars read about 0.2-0.3 bar at idle. The boost gauge reads absolute pressure. So, if the chamber containing the gauge was completely open to the atmosphere the value would read 1 bar, or around 13PSI - this being atmospheric pressure at sea level. So any number below this means the engine still has to suck it's air though the intake channels. Meaning the boost being generated by the turbo, in Golfs at least, is represented by the difference over 1.0 bar.

One of the popular reviews on the R got this wrong (performancedrive.com.au from memory) claiming the turbo on the R was generating a "ballistic" 27 pounds of boost, and even put it down as a possible negative for the car's long term durability. They were obviously looking at the absolute boost from the centre console display.

Wouldn't it be good if they were, though.

Ahhh ok. That makes sense if it's reading absolute pressure. Thanks for the explanation!

BTW, what is side assist? Isn’t it the same as blind spot assist?

Exactly like what rooboy’s video. I only have side assist, front assist and lane assist as option when the I have the coding error issue. After the recoding, I no longer have the side assist option (splits up to blind spot and rear traffic alert). Should still work the same as the video if you tick all the options.

Totally unrelated, asked the technician if traffic jam assist could be activated but haven’t got a definite answer from him. Anyone have any luck with this?

                        • It was talked about in other groups and Kamold has been able to enable TJA on some Tiggys and Passats in Sydney but there is a cost involved.

Yeah aware of third party coding. Just bit concerned if it voids the warranty sighhhhh. Tried VWA but got mixed responses.

Re - the sound - there's been some comments before about the .5 changes to the exhaust - do you really think the exhaust is louder, or just a more vocal soundaktor ? The tailpipes appear larger in our model - so maybe there was some sound added to combat the RS, as rumored.
Good point. It could be the soundaktor...... its a different sound though. Just as loud as the 7R but more burbly if that makes sense. Will sound the bees knees once the DP goes on thats for sure!!!

Ok. Makes sense. I’ve seen it only as blind spot/rear traffic alert.
