I managed to get a MY18 white manual GTI with infotainment pack and tint for $46k. Not sure if I got a good deal or not, but the Infotainment packs seems to be pretty rare.
I got some info from my saleperson about the key differences between the regular Golf R and my Golf R Grid version.
Below are the Grid features followed by the full spec R features:
Gloss Black mirrors v Matte Chrome mirrors
Sports cloth /Alcantara mix upholstery v Vienna leather
8" infotainment v 9.2"
Black roof rails v chrome roof rails (for wagons)
What the Grid doesn't get:
- Heated front seats
- Electric drivers seat with memory
- Gesture control
- Voice control
- Active info dash
The GRid still gets 19" Spielbergs, keyless access, dynamic indicators, electric folding mirrors (yesssss).
Currently driving a 2018 Golf R Grid Wagon (DSG) in Lapis Blue.
My wife drives an i30. She is understandably grumpy.
Anyone with their shiny new Golf R 7.5's happen to know which oil it takes? I read 5W 30 somewhere but was wondering if anyone with an actual manual could check? Kinda thinking I should stock up when its on sale. Cheers in advance!

In Oz it is supposed to be VW 504.00 approved (check the label carefully). Well, that's what is says in my manual anyway.

For those of you who have been lucky enough to get your new cars now, is the model MY17.5 or MY18?
I'm sorting out insurance but they all seem to have the car as MY17.5 and not MY18 (which I thought it would be if built in August).
Cheers

My Mk 7.5 was made as and is insured (with Allianz) as a MY18. Manufacturers can decide when to change Model Years (MYnn) anytime they like. This year VW started making MY18 Golf (Mk7.5) cars much earlier than August (mine was built in June).
Maybe some insurance companies are getting confused with the Mk (7.5) and the Model Year ( MY18 ) ?
hi guys,
have ordered all optioned gti, coming in to the country on the 20th this month. ( can't wait )
i see some youtube videos of the 7.5 gti's with running led indicator rear lights, don't remember seeing them like that on the display car. could some one confirm.
Also, does the driver assist feel any different(better) that the 7 gti?
