Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

So annoying! They just came out with the 1% finance so it's perfect time for me to buy. But I don't want an outdated Golf 6 months down the track

tigger - Tail lights with "chasing" turn indicator LEDS are already available from third party suppliers for existing mk7s - but the smarts for the sequential turn on-off facility is within the fittings themselves (not difficult to do electronically when there is easy access to individual LEDs)!

To minimise wiring loom copper, I suspect that the VW boffins in the vaterland will do the same for their OEM fittings

          Don
Please don't PM to ask questions about coding, or vehicle repairs. The better place to deal with these matters is in the forum proper. That way you get the benefit of the wider expertise of other forum members! Thank you.

That's why they're offering the 1% finance to clear out the stock of MY17 Golf (and Polo). Reality the facelift is only fairly minor on the outside. Probably the largest updates are in the electronics, etc. You'll get a keener deal on a MY17 but the update is what people are going to want when you go to trade up.

Something you'll have to weigh up. I you can live without the 7.5 features then I'd still be inclined to drive a hard bargain on a MY17 car.

Yeah I've seen aftermarket lights with operation of chaser, strobe, etc via a remote. It's not that hard but obviously requires the ability to sequence the lights. It would be interesting to find out how VW does it and if this is a standard feature in the lights or just a setup for the show.

GTI buyers may not like this..

"Volkswagen has also modified its seven-speed ‘DSG’ dual-clutch auto, giving it the ability to handle higher torque loads and make the previous co-existing six-speed DSG redundant."

                    I love it. That's progress.

The 40th anniversary is great for the uniqueness, but it doesn't have all the gadgetry I'm into. This updated model does.

Not that I'll upgrade to it, it's just promising for future models which I'll be interested in.

                    Edit...
Really like the rear tail lights. The day-time red LED's are much more pronounced & the rolling yellow indicators are more distinguished from those red LED's, unlike the current models.

This is the new 'wet' high torque DQ380 as found in the new FL S3- a big improvement on the existing 6 speed wet clutch.

Looks as though the 1.4 TSI in the Golf is being dumped for the all new 1.5 TSI Evo engine that has cylinder on demand tech like the Audi A3 but with a more advanced turbo that improves realistic fuel consumption by up to 1 litre/100. They will be 96 kw and 110 kw. The new turbo technology is the same as used on the latest Porsche 911.
