Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled
After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.
Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before.
We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Would you rather get the newest generation and see improvements through its life cycle or buy at the end of a life cycle and pretty get the most up to date revision of the generation but starring down the barrel of a shape change.

Spotted this today. Not sure how true it is but I have heard some rumors across the net and some dealers have mentioned that the new Golf Facelift (Debut in November 2016) will replace the MK8 as that would be announced sometime in 2018.
2017 Volkswagen Golf facelift to appear in November
Be eager to see one of these without camouflage. Anyone have any information on this?Originally posted by Primordial View PostIt's hardly surprising the facelift has so few extras. When the 2018 model comes out they're going to want to have as many 'new' features as possible to make it worthwhile for current owners to upgrade, and attract buyers to the new model. This includes the digital dash I guess, as seen in the 'all new' model Tiguan. The 2017 facelift is not the 'new' gen, so it probably won't get the new gen kitOriginally posted by XTC838 View PostDoesn't look very different to me:

The other side of the coin too is potentially being a beta testing guinea pig for new tech/engines in the the first MY of the new mark.
Having just spent > $4000 putting new forged pistons in my early Mk6 because VW cheaped out with their "International Engine of the Year" award winner.

There's plusses and minuses with buying the new model. Obviously there's the beta tester situation where there's a major tech update - new engines, transmissions, etc. Mk7 R/S3 owners can attest to the new turbo being less than 100% reliable... and 7 speed DSG in the Mk6 Golf is only finally getting sorted.
The model update can also be about stripping out weight, improving efficiency and reducing cost to manufacture. On occasions this weight/cost reduction can be driven more by economics rather than proper engineering. In the end the customer pays... or in a lot of cases the customer that buys the car/keeps the car outside the manufacturer warranty period ends up paying for the poor engineering/cost cutting.
Personally I think the Mk7.5 will be a good one. More tech and the early Mk7.0 gremlins all sorted plus VW will either sharpen the pencil a bit or toss in more goodies.

Due to the cost of Dieselgate VW are probably extending the model life to cut costs. I wouldn't be surprised if we see the MK8 Golf in Australia before MY20. The first of the MK7.5 will have the current engine range. The 1.5 TSI will probably be released in time to allow beta testing for the MK8.
I am looking at either a MK7.5 Golf Wagon or the face lifted Octavia Wagon. Had a look at the new Tiguan Comfortline 110TSI but seems over priced considering a Golf Comfortline Wagon with DA is about 10k cheaper.

I know it's not a huge facelift but I don't get why they don't just call it the Mk8 instead of 7.5 (or is this something the community made up?)
The Mark 6 was similarly viewed as a 5.5.

I believe the Mk7.5 is new technology but the MK8 will be a fully reengineered car, thats what i will replace my Mk6 R withMy12 Golf R -DSG, sunroof, vienna leather interior

Been looking at the main VW site (volkswagen.com) and the extra tech on the "MK7.5" Golf does sound kinda nice. Hope we get the Discover Pro media option here in the Highline at least. Also looks like the Alltrack will get the missing blind spot monitoring

Yes dieselgate has caused massive reduction in R&D spend. So instead of a Mk8 we're getting a Mk7.5 with a moderate facelift instead.

I find it a little odd that having spent a decent amount on the virtual cockpit, the main feature of having info + nav displayed together is still not available unless you have Discover Pro (which up until now has not been made available by VWA) and what put me in an Audi (since it's nav/info screen wasn't a downgrade compared to the Mk6 RNS510).
The other tech stuff at a glance seems pretty interesting, again if made available down here.
