  • Latest Clutch Pack PArt No

This new style clutch ends with a part number G instead of the previous letters L or M and S. As far as I'm aware this new style clutch combats both the squeaking and shuddering issues.

If your unhappy with the way your car is changing gears whether it's a noise or shudder . Call your local dealership voice your complaints and ask for a test drive with a tech or foreman.

    Hi,

Does anyone know what the latest clutch pack part no is? I have just had a new one installed and the part No is 0AM198142AA.

    Thanks

    • Hi,

I had a new installed not long ago, it was done in an independent garage but the mechanic said he called a “friend” in the dealer and he told him that the part number currently in use was 0AM198140L.

As per the post above I probably got an older model instead
, but so far so good (30K done so far).

      • Our Golf 09/2015 110TSi 7 speed with 115,000kms has started making the same chirping noise as in this video posted by @nickw444 on 19-02-2022 in their 2016 92TSi.

I assume it's also the clutch plates in ours...?

I have read a few stories where VW have done replacements well outside of warranty period due it being a known issue.
I have serviced the car myself since warranty expired in 2018, so would this be an issue in attempting to get a replacement citing 'major failure' even though the gearbox is a non-serviceable item?
I guess it's just a case of asking...

Could this be caused by changing it between D and S mode regularly while driving? I would hope not!

We're sick of throwing money at our VWs, as we've spent nearly $5,000 over the past 2 years on our VW Caravelle, and now that's losing water...again...

        • My MY16 R-Line Golf lost power and went into a false neutral on 3 occasions over the past couple of weeks. I ran a scan on the car and it recorded two transmission fault codes. I took it to the dealership today and they diagnosed that the mechatronic unit needs replacing. They contacted Volkswagen Australia to see if they would offer any goodwill concessions but unfortunately they refused to due to the amount of kilometres my car has done. I'm going to call them myself on Monday in the hope that I can persuade them. I've been quoted $3500 to replace it. I'm looking to get some quotes from a couple of independent's but wondering if this price is typical of people are paying?

          • So, we have a Golf 7 110TSI DSG. it doesn't do much driving, just putting around the city. it had the clutches replaced at 33k at the start of 2020. It's started doing the squeal between gears again. Probably worse than the fist time. it's got 58k on it now. it will be 7 in january this year.

We've been textbook VW customers. Bought it new from the dealership and serviced there ever since.

Reckon they will cover it for us? I do think they should.

If not is it going to cost a lot?

Update.. told the service people. Went for a short drive with the tech. Told him when it makes the noise. He nodded and within a k or so got a really loud squeal out of it. Turned around and went back.

They asked VW to cover it which they have agreed to. I'm disappointed that it's happened but grateful that VW are covering it.

              • I wrote to Volkswagen Australia and requested Goodwill Assistance given my issue is with the pressure accumulator which was a recall issue for Volkswagen cars built up until 2016. My car was built in 2015 but was not recalled. I suspect because it is a MY16 car. I didn't recieve a reply so I contacted the Volkswagen Experience centre and they created a case number. Two weeks later now and Ive had no answer. I have tried to follow up with phone calls but the experience centre is an overseas call centre and whilst they promise to call me back, they never do. Does anyone know a direct number to Volkswagen Australia?

                  • Does anyone else have experience of the new clutches starting to judder again between 1st and 2nd gears even after being replaced?

Since the new clutches (and gear selector rods) about 3k ago, the car has just started to judder agin on the change between 1st and 2nd.

I’ll take it back to VW but just checking if anyone else has had a similar issue and if after new clutches what else could it be if it has started again I.e. something other than the clutches?

When the gear selectors rods failed and the car was towed to the dealer, I asked about the mechatronic unit but they said it was all good. Just wondering if something like this could have cooked another clutch already after only a few thousand K.

                    TIA

So as an update I took a VW tech for a drive last week and they had the car for a day. Tech felt the issue on the test drive which was good.

The local VW garage got in contact with VW NZ, they are now stating that the mechatronics unit needs replacing at $6500 and that it seems to be a process of elimination to find out what causes the issue in the first place. Seems crazy to spend about $2500 on a new clutch pack to then find that you then need to pay out for another part and potentially another part after that, where does it stop!! It's not as if each attempt is a couple of hundred dollars, its thousands of dollars!

The whole process of elimination piece I think is rubbish given the issues that others have had.

Has anyone else had similar and did it stop at the mechatronic unit, what's next, new gear box?

I am lucky to have a warranty and am pushing that the mechatronics is part of the original clutch claim since the same issue has come back again after only a few thousand K.

I also wonder what damage has now happened to the clutches...

VW Extended Warranty Insurance (Allianz) approved a new clutch pack. Going in wed next week for repair. They said initially there would be a diagnosis fee, but it would be covered if Allianz approved the warranty claim. I gave them videos of the squeaking, so it was pretty evident there was a problem. Car has only done 35k km...
