Oh that's good to know. I had read on some forum that DAP removes driver fatigue detection. Obviously that's incorrect

    Thanks for letting me know!

Haha clearly the computer is smarter than me.

But I made the assumption that someone who is dozing off would tend to drift out of their lane and make last minute adjustments to correct their course

Thanks for the photo of your new DAP2 Golf, MRG_AU.

Can you also upload a photo of the blind spot indicator in the exterior mirrors, please? Mine's due for delivery in the next 10 days, and I want to be able to tell at a glance that it has the newer DAP.

Also, are there any additional sensors at the rear for the Rear Cross Traffic Alert (the old DAP had 4 parking sensors in the rear bumper plus one on each wheel arch)?

                Driver Assist Package II?

Thanks for sharing the photo @MRG_AU.

@cyberman, the rear traffic alert uses the same sensors as the blind spot monitoring system. They are two black boxes mounted either side of the car behind (inside) the rear bumper. These are not the same as parking sensors.

Edit: Actually, I could be wrong. I think VW might be utilising the 2 parking sensors mounted behind the rear wheel arch (for park assist) to do the same job.

Getting my new golf tomorrow with the DAP2. What does the blind spot assist and rear traffic alert actually do? can't find anything about it on the net.

                    Hi @thewool,
These are the VW descriptions for these two technologies.
                    Blind spot or side assist:
Side Assist, is a lane change assistant detects vehicles on the right and left hand side of the lane, in the blind spot and those vehicles coming nearer behind. The system informs with orange warning light in the exterior mirror whenever a detected vehicle is close and a lane change would be dangerous. If the driver sets the indicator, the warning light begins to flash.

Rear Cross-Traffic Alert system senses stationary and moving objects directly behind you. Especially helpful when pulling out of a tricky driveway or maneuvering in a crowded parking lot.

Thanks. Just got the car and the dealer explained it all. He said they were surprised it had the rear alert because they were expecting it not to. Bit annoyed the traffic doesn't work though. It worked on my written off golf from last year. Anyway, all good.

You can enable traffic using VCDS. Check the reference thread.

Took delivery of my MY15.5 with DAP2 today (yay).
My only problem is I can't work out how to turn on the Blind Spot Monitor and the Cross traffic monitor. I can see the light in the exterior mirror glass, so it's definitely installed.
I press the button on the left stalk (tried to set the cruise control, expecting that to be in the same place as my old Golf), and the display next to the speedo showed those two options unticked. Page 345 of the manual uselessly says if they're unticked to turn them on, but doesn't try to say how to turn them on!!!
                          Can anyone help, please?

So it's all the up & down arrows, plus the OK button on the right of the steering wheel. I sure wish the dealer had pointed out those controls to me (he was being overrun by people having their new cars delivered this afternoon, before Easter).
Thanks heaps, MRG_AU (and for your pm).

Today I have experienced the full force of city brake. It is seriously scary. It was unintentional, the car in front of me slammed brakes to standstill n pulled over. Mine stopped even before I took control, with a weird display on the dash board, I need to check the manual what it means. It looked like a car with all sensor waves towards all directions.

I was so happy but was so scared n worried about the car behind would hit me. All happened so quick and nothing to worry in the end. [emoji41]
