Maps and POIs for Discover Media

Well on my XC90 Volvo they have "free software updates" in their service costs but then tell you it doesn't include maps and that will be $1000 thank you very much - no thanks. So now when I go on holidays on the new freeways, I am driving through farms and it gets awfully confused.

I asked my local dealer last Sat (8 days ago) if there are new maps out. They said they'd get back to me on Monday.

Heard nothing. Typical.

Try again tomorrow.

Update: They have understood! Car booked in for next week!

Well, I hoped for the best. Still no update. Ran out of time to try HQ's method of doing the update. Booked in next week again.

Haven't been any new maps for a while according to my dealer, but they expect new ones in a couple of weeks.

& they want to charge $180 for the upgrade (via new SD card)....

I was told by VW that I should not upgrade the map given the current issues with the MIB2 , they could deny warranty claims.

LOL That's BS at its finest. Upgrading your MIB1 map has nothing to do with MIB2. Two completely different platforms differentiated by different hardware and software. Take it somewhere else and get a second opinion.

And given the update is provided by VW, on what grounds would they deny any future warranty claim?

Ahh my bad for assuming. You know what they say...

I still don't see how upgrading map would void warranty given you are performing an intended function of their product. So I still call BS.

Finally! I have a map update after almost 3 years of ownership! Let's hope the dealer promises to call people on "the list" and give them the missing MapCare function.

Would any who have successfully upgraded the map from V3 on the MiBII please share the steps. Thank you. This is what I've tried but failed.

1. DL maps from HERE for discovery media, extract using Winrar to HDD, deleted files from V3 Sd card, copy to V3 SD card - failed.
2. DL maps from HERE for discovery media, extract using 7zip to HDD, deleted files from V3 Sd card, copy to V3 SD card - failed.
3. DL maps from HERE for discovery media, delete files from V3 SD, extract using Winrar/7zip to SD card - failed.
4. DL maps from HERE for discovery media, format V3 SD, extract using Winrar to V3 SD card - failed.

I downloaded the maps from the most recent link in this thread.

I extracted the files using 7zip.

I made a copy of my SD card (just dragged the files to the desktop) and then deleted the files from the SD card.

Then I dragged the new, extracted folder to the SD to copy them on to the SD card (having first checked that the folder structure was the same as the old structure).

Ejected the card and stuck it in the car.

All good.

Unfortunately, the structures are different for me.
Original V3 card has Map>21, 22, 23,24, 27 EEC structure.
New download has markets, DBinfo structure.

Which structure did you encounter with?
