Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

I just wish they have one without a logo as I just want white light shining down.
The logo thing is a little chintzy but kinda cool at the same time. I've seen this in action, it's a neat party trick.

Hadn't seen that site before, couple of interesting (and cheap) items on there. Thinking the $10 'Racing' sunshade looks ok..

Four boxes rocked up this morning to work. First set in the country - OZ's new Leggera HLT in grigio corsa bright, 18x8 ET48.

Dropping them off shortly to be Opticoated, hopefully fitment to take place in the not too distant future!

Nice! What are you going to do with your stocks?

Did you also manage to try out the can of fabric protector you showed in a previous post? I've got some time this weekend and would like to give the interior a coat of protection. Can't make up my mind on what to use..

Most likely I will stash the Austins and put them back on when I sell the car - unless I get an offer too good to refuse, but I doubt it.

I haven't had a chance to suss it out yet, got side tracked on the weekend and never found the time. Hopefully I can give it a crack before this weekend to help guide you.

Nice Dutch, my Ultraleggera's are still on their way. I remember looking at these and at time couldn't find them in a MK7 fitment. Where did you order from?

I spent a couple of days and didn't even test drive the Mk7 before signing up; then spent weeks debating wheel choices. Love OZ, had them before and almost grabbed Ultraleggeras myself before these popped up. I bought through local channels, PM if you want more info although if you've ordered probably of little use.

I was actually expecting a fair old wait for these, but managed to score them in 2.5 weeks from factory order in Italy to delivery here!

What color and specs did you go for? Would love to add the pics to the wheel thread once you're up and running.

              The Leggera HLTs I've got are 18 x 8 ET48, I didn't want to stray far from stock. They're also in a ET35 which might suit Scirroco or Passat, and they also have a 19 x 8 ET45, or a 19 x 8.5 ET47 if one is feeling aggressive.

Aah that explains it. I stuck with the 19" size of the R, remember now I couldn't find the Leggera's in 19" I went with 19x8.5 ET47 on the Ultralegerra HLT. Dealer called me today and said car will be ready for delivery early next week which is a week later than I was hoping. Expect to have the wheels on it late next week and then will definitely add pics to the wheel thread!

Sounds about right, my understanding was OZ released the Leggera HLT only in March as a 17 inch wheel, and only began 18 inch production in April/May. It's possible and likely that 19 inch production hasn't started or has only recently. But in any case the Ultraleggera HLT is a great wheel and look forward to seeing the pics soon. The more OZ the merrier.

^ I reckon that's the detailer I've got as well (the blue bottle, if it's something else ignore me).. definitely gives an added pop to the finish I reckon.

Yes I know, I've got a few people PMing me about how it went. Unfortunately work and Junior Dubber has taken up my spare time but I fully intend to give it a go this weekend. Although us SA members have dyno day Saturday.. no, no more excuses. Stay tuned.

Hi guys I’m looking to get some opinions on Opti-Coat. I got a quote from Exclusive Detailling in Sutherland for “$500 including side mirrors”. He said they were doing a Mk7 R as he was emailing me.

Is this a good price? What are people’s thoughts on opti-coat? Is it worth it?

That's a pretty good price I think. I paid $700 for stage 1 correction and Opti Coat over all external surfaces except glass (so wheels, lights and plastic trim included).

Importantly they also used an Opti Coat primer as part of the correction so more of the Opti Coat bonded during the application.

I used Reflect Effect in North Parramatta. It was a bit of a drive for me (based in Wollstonecraft) but well worth it. If you Google them you'll see Dave spoken about highly on detailing forums etc.

It will depend on the dealer and their overheads.

The cars I have organised to get paint correction and Opticoat done are paying around $400-450, but that's local.

I've had it on three cars personally and it's now the first 'mod' I get done.

Hey Lemonskin, if you don't mind the drive I'd strongly recommend you contact Definitive Detailing in Lane Cove as he did my R with a dual-coat spray gun application plus wheels (and he did my steering for free too) for $750.

Frank the principal is a super enthusiast that does his work with pride and I just took my car back for an inspection yesterday to make sure that the coat has settled in nicely. He also takes nice professional photographs of all the vehicles he's done and they look great. If you're looking to get tinting done he's also happy for your tinted to do it at his workshop, and in this instance I would recommend Rob from Hunters Hill Tinting (he'll do the triangle at the front as well).
