Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

I purchased one and they sound fantastic, its an easy DIY job and only takes a couple of hours. You do need to program the box ,VW say its predone for a golf 4 door but mine was set for a Jetta, after trying all the settings I went with 13 which is for a Polo !
My dealer specifically said it's the one that fits in the spare wheel space and not the box one. I want the one that fits in the wheel.
I have seen photos of the helix sub fitting on top of the spare wheel for the GTI but I believe this won't work for the R due to there being less depth in boot because of the all wheel drive system.
I also heard as well that the round sub was discontinued but my dealer specifically checked with the spare parts team on what was available for for the 7.5 R, and they did say it was the circle one. I just hope it's a new model similar to the dynaudio sub. I would be more than happy with that.

Also I wouldn't have a clue about installing the system, I'd be too scared once I get to plugging the cables into the HU. I'd rather just my dealer do it, that way I'm covered properly with warranty.

He hasn't gotten back to me though. I'll check in with him next week.

      • So I have been advised that the mk7.5 sub kit fits inside the spare wheel like the dynaudio system and I won't lose the spare wheel.
This is great news. He will send me info next week. So i reckon I will get this instead of gutting my car to retro fit dynaudio.
I will share details and specs once I have the info.

My dealer gave me a no on this one. 'Said it was being "looked at", but nothing came of it.
Can you confirm your guy's on the money ?

So I believe he wasn't on the money the info he sent me is for the Helix plug n play system that replaces the spare wheel (thought it was discontinued). So I told him and he is checking with spare parts department. I don't want to lose the spare wheel.
Anyway if your dealer said they are looking into it, then I may wait.
I emailed VW and they got back to me saying to speak with my local dealership. Great customer service...

Anyway I'll report back if he gets back to me.

                  • Unfortunately my dealer was misunderstood. It replaced the spare.... So I'm not going with it.
Hopefully VW Will come out with a different model soon.
SteveMc, which dealer said that they are looking into it?

                    • Picked up factory roof bars for a reasonable price compared to the Thule version and while I was there also got a rear bumper scuff plate for about $150...but declined the offer of the dealer fitting the scuff plate for almost another $200

Laughable pricing there... I guess there is a significant cost in supervising the apprentice to ensure the sticker is peeled correctly and centred in place... 🙄

Can confirm that floor mats for mk7 Golf fit the new mk7.5 after receiving these today.
They look thick and flexy enough and of reasonable quality.
