I think work out the different styles you're looking at, and then hit the Golf friendly specs in to google and see what you can find - you may end up finding something you like. Ultimately though I would be looking at something 8.5 wide with a wider tyre (255+? i.e. like RS3 spec) to maybe curb a bit of the traction issue.

Going much beyond that will give you the looks, but undo the work you're doing on looking for performance.
          Thanks for all your help.

I have found some rims that I used to have on my S15 and they come in 18x9 ET32. Will need to see what kind of tyres I can fit on it and then think about lowering car after that. The reason I went with 9 is that they will still have a deep dish compared to 18x8 ET37

A bit of banter on the thread is welcomed.

That's going to be one aggressive fitment..

Looks like I am going to have to stretch some 235s onto the rims lol. I put 245s onto 18x10 ET9 on my S15, and with just some guard rolling they fit in relatively easy, once I put coilovers and lowered then the wheels cambered in anyway and gave a little more room.

You can make almost anything fit with a bit of work.

hahahaha, thats awesome, just burned 10 mins checking out some of the ridiculous ones. It looks like 235/245 is the right fit for 9". I would rather lower it after the wheels and tyres are fitted and then see how much of a monster truck it looks like and work it from there.

There is some pretty crazy stuff on there but it's a useful guide/resource.

Even after market 18s with a fairly conservative fitment can start to look a touch odd on the GTI (over time I felt mine needed a touch more lows to finish the look), but I think it comes down to the style of wheel.

Look forward to what you end up with..
