        • 20 inch wheels look absolutely ridiculous. Looks fresh out of the hot wheels packaging.

Couldn't agree more, 18 and 19 inch is still the best look and proportion.

This was a USA dealer car showing off, in particular, the Motorsport wheels and the centred exhaust diffuser.

                • Price Comparison of 18" Austin vs 19" Cadiz

I have previously posted the replacement cost of a 19" Cadiz wheel from my local Volkswagen dealer spare parts department, but I thought it would be an interesting comparison if I also had a quote for a 18" Austin. Here they are:

19" Cadiz: $1,804.95 RRP (incl. GST)
18" Austin: $926.75 RRP (incl. GST)

As both wheels are made by RONAL, could the economies of scale be such that the manufacturing cost of the Cadiz wheel is almost double that of the Austin? I wouldn't have thought so, even taking into account that far more standard GTI's would be produced than R's, which of course are fitted standard in Europe with 18" Cadiz wheels.

I believe the 19" Santiago wheel is only around $100 to $150 cheaper than the 19" Cadiz, so perhaps Volkswagen are simply pricing 19" wheels in a premium product category.

Regardless of what wheels are fitted to your new GTI or R, I recommend all owners replace their OEM wheels with quality after-market items, and save your precious OEM wheels for future resale of your car. If you sell your OEM wheels on eBay to recoup the costs of your new after-market wheels, you get only a fraction of their replacement value, and I can't see any point in this strategy.

                  • Wise words Mikey. (Hard to believe the Cadiz 'cost' double the Austin!). I'm considering Black Oz Racing Ultraeggas for my R at about $2k for all 4 rims which is a comparative bargain

                    • Agreed as well, especially given the err looks of the Cadiz and Santiagos.

If you're picking up OZ Ultraleggeras for $2k you'd better share the source! The UK usually prices up at almost £2k before freight and duties, and my local contact's number will start with a 3. I definitely approve of the choice, although I'd give serious consideration to the graphite finish to stand out more.

This is the Revozport Mk7 Golf, make up your own mind about the add ones but there is little dispute that the forged Klassen's are a beautiful wheel.

Are you saying your price is $2.4K? That's 35% off the Australian distributor's RRP. Please share your source with us.

Geez, if I'm spending that sort of money, I would give serious consideration to a forged set of RAYS for not much more. I've seen a wrecked OZ HLT wheel, which had only glanced a kerb at moderate speed. In any case, I'm looking forward to my G25's at 8kg a piece, a saving of around 4 to 5kg per corner. I hope people don't see me as just a one-eyed RAYS enthusiast!
