I believe you'll find it won't work without an MDI. Which you should be able to retrofit by purchasing from carsystems.pl, I think. Check out this thread:

There are heaps of cables on that page. Which one are we talkin about? USB-MDI & then an MDI-Lightning?

Just found out the only way to view your "total" Odometer reading (besides turning off the ignition) is to turn Cruise Control off. But of a quirk with the MK7 I guess.

      • Deal goals for Mk7 GTI

Hi all, I am looking to purchase a Mk7 Golf GTI/ GTI PP on VW Choice in the next month or so. With the DAP 2, what would you say is a good target to aim for in terms of DA pricing? I personally have no idea how much room there is to move in the $45k special price online. Can anyone share their opinions/experiences?

It's not just a cable you need, it's a whole MDI:

            Thanks, Adam.

I'm cautious when it comes to these things - Umm'd & ahhh'd for a while before I bought an XCARLINK unit for the Polo which added Bluetooth/IPod connectivity + AUX. All of which create distortion of the audio....

BTW, am I the only one who loves the halogen light design? I reckon Aussies lucked out with how the indicator sits within the cluster - on overseas models, they have the outer edge of the headlight in orange for the indicator, but ours has it in the center in the same colour as the rest of the headlight. Looks very space-age imo.

No, I also much prefer the halogen cluster design especially minus the red line. I think you'll find the orange indicator lens is a by-product of USA design rules although a number of the guys are tinting it out.

Having said that, I no longer hate the red line like I did 12 months ago. I merely dislike it.

And when Jimi and Brendan read this, yes I know you love the red line and think it looks incomplete without yada yada, I accept its a conversation that will never end until we all get a proper headlight cluster a la S3 LED.

                Right on!

I've actually turned against the red line through the headlights, after seeing old Commodores lately, with the red line which goes across the whole front (& rear in some models) bumper. Too similar to a 90's car design

The discrete/shorter red line on the GTI's growing on me & the initial disappointment of not having Bi-Xenons available for the GTI helped with my negotiations

I think the conversation will only finish with the release of Mk8

                      Hehe. Just playin.

                      ****

How well is the suspension on this thing - approaching the first speed bump, I was expecting a jolt up my spine, but things went smoothly, & that was in Sport mode. I've rotated through the driving modes & I'm sure the others are even smoother over bumps.

One thing which irks me though is that when driving with both rear windows down, you get this low frequency-esque pounding sound from the air which travels along side the car & past the open windows. It's hard to explain the sound, but it's like a "whoa whoa whoa"....

My current car (Honda Civic Hatch) has the same problem, as does a friend of mine's Rav4 (previous gen) that I car pool with regularly. Also my previous car (Subaru Liberty) did the same thing. In the case of the Rav4 it's actually painful to listen to. I feel like my ear drums are going to pop. It's not as bad in my Honda but still bad enough that I never put the rear windows down. These are by no means the only cars I've experienced this problem in. I think it's a bit of a side effect of the aero gains new designs are taking advantage of. No science to back that up, but I never experienced it in my first car or my parents old bricks. Only in supposedly aerodynamic-ly efficient vehicles.

                        • Thanks Mattaus. Good to know it's not exclusive to the GTI. Though it is unbearable for me, so no more driving with rear windows down for me..

Love this car at night...the LED's in the bumper give it a menacing look. So many cars overdo it with the daytime running light designs. Too curvy most of the time. I prefer straight lines, but the GTI goes one better with a simple, vertically aligned, triple LED effect within the bumper.

Another good thing is the Cruise Control is only deactivated by the brake pedal - van I drive deactivates CC with both the brake & clutch pedals. I like how you can change gears in the GTI & it still remains active.

Design-flaw!!: Windscreen wipers can't be flipped up over the bonnet - how can you clean the lower-most part of the windscreen??..

Gah. Yeah yeah, I'm making my way through the chunky manual. I'll finish it one day.

My bro actually spotted it, & in his eagerness to spot flaws in just about anything, highlighted it to me. My eagerness to prove him wrong is just as high now that you've pointed that out.

                              Thanks, Mountainman.
