Yeah i'm aware it's the small square. Just wasn't sure how clear a degree of sight it needed (180 degrees, or just directly in front) for the anti-dazzle to work most effectively.

Haven't really driven much at night, so can't say if it works yet - is the whole windscreen meant to drown out on-coming headlights as effectively as the rear-vision mirror does to those behind?

& on the shaded area ("Communication Window" as the manual refers to it as), is non-coated (of infra-red reflective coating) which ensures that electronic accessories (remote controls) can function properly.

..."The uncoated area should not be covered either from the outside or the inside, nor should any stickers be applied to this area as this could cause a fault in the electronic components".

      Our windscreens don't do this

Ok, so my concern (regarding blocking the sensor with etag) was for nothing?

When you say 'our', do you mean GTI's/All Golfs? Ie. other VW models do have this feature?

        • My understanding was that the communication window was an area specifically with no metal or whatever so the tag registered properly. Mine has never not worked. Here's an old thread that I just googled

            Thanks, Jimi.

Looks like we can remove it completely since we have a metallic windscreen. & be charged 0.75 for the first time only without having it on display, but then have that refunded (which we need to arrange). All subsequent gate passes sans-etag holder won't be charged the 0.75 fee.

I've stuck it too low, so will remove it & have an etag-free windscreen.........

            • Any idea when MY2016 Golf R will start shipping to Australia and will it have the MIB 2 display?

Sorry don't know but today I discovered Auto-Hold doesn't engage unless your seatbelt is on.

I'm sure there's a perfectly rationale explanation for this [emoji41]

                • Anyone not too impressed with the swirls on the glossy B-pillars & requested the dealer have them removed/swapped for others? How did this process go?

You can kind of see the swirls here, but in the right light it seems as if the dealers detailers went to town on them without much care?

                  • Yes having been with The Audi brand for many years those swirs irked me also, luckily my new MK7 GTi is swirl free , I put that down to the dealership not buffing the vehicle prior to delivery as many do for absolutely no reason other than to ruin the entire cars paintwork., not noticeable much if you have a white or silver car , but once you get into the dark colours it looks terrible. High quality waxes will essentially "fill" the swirls or scratcher , which is what they are and render them almost invisible , but of course everytime you wash your car you remove some of the wax , so eventually back to the swirls again, If i had had that issue I would have had a high quality "carbon fibre look" vinyl wrap applied PROFESSIONALLY.If it is done professionally with the best material , problem solved and looks good to0.
Remember to always use clean cloths when washing and the best wash/polish products money can buy !My 2 cents worth !!

Can I ask what dealer your car came from?

                        • Hi guys,

I lost my licence 9 months ago (let's call it GTI effect) so I sold my mk6. I'm now looking at buying a mk7 but I want the MY16 for keyless entry and android auto.

I'm lookng at getting a DSG, fully optioned, I really want sunroof and leather and thought i might as well get driver assist.

I contacted VW on the coast and they came up with this quote (55K)

What do you think? I'm about to get other dealers in the brisbane area to quote me to so I can get them to compete against each other.

                          • I can't be of much help, but I do notice the price of the leather has gone up $300 since I got my quotes approximately 3 months ago. I also thought the base price was supposed to be $40,990. Surely DSG isn't a $5000 option?!

                            • That's nearly R money, which has leather standard

                              • VW Mt Gravatt just did a counter offer at $51k. That seems better.

As for what you said Jimi, I agree with you except that DSG R 2016 with same config comes up at nearly 67k. That's a good 15k difference.
