That's still a pretty good deal. Personally I would ask them to cancel the Paint Protection (I am a detailing nut though) and I would get the tint done somewhere else (I got quoted less than half what the dealer wanted to charge me from several reputable tint places here in Adelaide. If you still want the paint protection you can probably find a place that will do Opti Coat (I've heard it is very good) and tint for around $1k.
Yeah I have tornado red on my mk 5! Looks awesome just washed and at night under city lights! Decided on a darker colour this time around.
Yeah I got the opti coat + interior treatment and the dark night tint for 1.5k

I'll think about getting the detailing done elsewhere. But i'm just thinking of staying with the GTI as I'm happy with that car too.

    • Wow, that much for a GTi, I paid $58,500 for a loaded (manual) black R about 4 months ago, on a $1k deposit.

      • Hi Everyone. Just a quick question for other owners. We have a Mk7 GTi Manual. Back in July last year we noticed an irritating buzz that appeared at approx 2300-2500RPM. The dealership were really good, they fixed it and told us that one of the fuel line clips behind the dash was broken. Sadly after about 10 months rattle has come back, took it back to the dealership and they insulated various things and said it was fixed. Unfortunetly on the trip back home it could be heard, I'm not particularly annoyed about this, rattles are problematic at best and I feel the dealership have been very helpful, so not concerned they weren't able to fix it straight away.

From my own research, there seems to be a well known issue (I've even found vague reference to a TSB), the fuel lines that run in a channel underneath the car (in Australia under the drivers side) harmonically resonate against the chasis which is perceived as a buzzing noise around dash area. I'm leaning towards this being the cause of the issue and will probably make reference to this when I take it back to dealership. Just wondering if anyone else has had this issue (and if this has been successfully addressed)? Noticed that there a few home fixes with people using cable ties to pull the lines off the chassis, but there is also references to an official VW fix - at least in other countries. Thanks!

edit spelling! PS. I love the car in every other respect!

          • First time GTI buyer here, deciding on MY15 or MY16.

Looking for some feedback on what people would consider a good price for the MY15, considering the desirable changes in MY16. What would you pay for a new MY15?

            Thanks

I'd simply go off the MY16 prices that are mentioned in this thread and try and get a few grand off that for a MY15 model. It is my understanding that dealers need to move the MY15 cars before they can really start to push the MY16 models, so I'd try and use that as leverage as well.

                    • I'm going to test drive a couple of Golf's this weekend and while I think a new GTI is out of my price range I'm going to see what they can do with demo/floor MY15 DSG's.

I'm not too fussed on colours but do you think I could get it close to 40 for a demo in Melbourne?

                      Otherwise it's a MK6 GTI/Mk7 90TSI.

                      • Once you test drive the GTI you wont want TSI

They are super keen to get rid of the MY15 demos. However if you finance through VW on a new MY15 GTI you get 5 year warranty, I was told not with demos. So I went with new, but the only demo at the dealer was not what I was after anyway.

If you could find a no option DSG demo I would say low 40s is doable.

                        • I cringe knowing how demos are treated, especially GTIs. Cold oil, full throttle.. buy new or buy a low mileage car from someone you can trust to have done the right thing (eg. I couldn't give away my near spotless MY14 with 8500km for $35k earlier this year).

If you want to save coin have a long look at the Mk6s though - I preferred mine to be honest, and with the coin saved think of all the fun mods to be had.

                          • Take dutch's advice re avoiding performance models. When I was doing the test drive rounds there was an evo 10 demo for sale that I test drove. Was first thing in the morning, car stone cold, sales men takes me out first and as soon as he turned out of driveway it was full throttle to red line. Feel for the person who ended up buying it if that was representative of how it was treated.

When I took the GTI and R for a drive the salesman let me use the launch control. Twice. On each car. Fun.... But the next owner would have a sour face if he ever found out.

                              • Hi guys,

I've had my mk7 gti for about 6 months and the low oil light just came one. I've heard that they can use a lot of oil. Anyway I am confused to what it means in the manual when it talks about what oil to use based on service intervals. I managed to find some shell helix ultra 5w-30 which is vw 504.00/507.00 approved. Is this the correct oil? My service centre isn't open and I need to drive the car in a few hours.

                                Many thanks
