Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Got the car today. Don't think they tinted the front small windows. But it looks dark enough for me not to be an issue. I'll see if i notice it more throughout the week.

On another point, I've been playing around with android auto and mirrorlink. Android auto works as advertised (albeit with not much on it), but I can't get mirror link to mirror my phone. I've got a galaxy s6 and when it connects via mirrorlink it starts an app. When I go to the app selection screen there sometimes appears an option to "mirror" I think it's 1:1 button. Pressing this does nothing and just keeps relaunching the same app. The "home" button also does nothing. I did get it to show the top bar of my phone (the bar that has the clock, battery, notifications) by pressing all sorts of combinations lol, but apart from that the screen is black.

Is there a trick to get it to mirror the phone and have 2 way control over it? I know other head units can do it.

At Bunnings now, just picking up the caps, how did you get them to stick in?

      • Love how the Static Cornering Lights come on as soon as you turn the indicator on ie. Prior to even turning wheel (due to me setting them to come on early I think?).

Sorry, a bit late now obviously, but I used a very thin outdoor double sided tape that I also got from Bunnings:

I set mine to the earliest setting as well and I agree, it's awesome

Ah ok cool thanks mate, will pick some of that up too, my local Bunnings didn't have the press caps in the bigger size, will try another one.
Can I ask about how big the caps are across?

            Cheers.

The tape holds really well. no sign of it coming off and I've washed the car a few times now plus driven in a fair amount of rain. When you put it on the back of the caps, use a scalpel or cut the tap on an angle so it doesn't stick out the sides. Or cut it before sticking it on the cap, but you'll want to get as close to the edges as possible as there is a hole in your bumper that it will have nothing to adhere to.

The ones I have are 12mm across. They are the only ones Bunnings sold. pretty sure they don't sell any others. If you want larger you'll need to go to eBay. I like the ones I have though as they are big enough to cover the holes and stay on, but not so big they stick out like sore thumbs.

Awesome thanks, will give it a go. The ones they had didn't look as big as yours but now I'm pretty sure they were the same. Theyd sold out of the small pack, so 250 of them it is haha.

I'll wait until it's actually 100% official before I bother getting worked up about it. Secretly I'm hoping it gives me some way to go stage 1 without voiding my warranty. I can dream

I will never let VW de-tune my car, so I'm all for free stuff if it's being thrown my way

Err, no one's taking any power away from my car.

I'll let this pan out, but I'm on alert......

                      • Will be selling my GTi as am returning to New Zealand to live and work but timeline unknown (ie. got to get a job first)
My questions is, to achieve the best price (as I have finance to pay out) would you sell your car now or wait - could be January or could be 3-6 months or more, who knows.
The car is fully financed but I can pay the shortfall out no problem.
I was told it was built Apr 2015, Delivered mid June 2015 so MY15 model, manual, white, no extras - only done 4500 km.
I guess my question relates to depreciation as that is the factor most likely to affect value- and of course demand.
Be interested in others opinions - or if you have been through the same scenario with a previous car.
                        Cheers, John

                        • Sooner you sell it the better the price you will get, longer you wait more come up for sale, only downside is it's not the new my16 model & with my15 "auto" going brand new from $38990 to $40k expect to take a hit on yours, start mid $30s but be realistic you will get low $30s

                          Good luck

Might consider taking it with me if I am going to drop $10K in 6 months - and enjoy the Promotech power module I have just installed.
Thanks for taking the time to reply.

                            • Lol, nah just being realistic, if you can buy a brand new auto the road for $39k, that prices a manual brand new at $37k brand new, so makes sense a used model is low 30s as the buyer has to add on roads & loss of almost 1 year warranty, all about market timing what's around when you put it up, may get mid 30s at best

Take it with you I say 👍

                              • I've been stuck at home a few days so I took the opportunity (yeah, I was bored) to remove, smooth, and paint my rear valance:

Results are OK. Would definitely look nicer if it was properly smoothed and epoxy coated (or something thicker than several cans of gloss black spray and clear coat). I still think it looks better than the rough and dark grey plastic that was there before. Only problem now is that I want to do the side skirts and all the black trim on the front as well. I might take them all off in one hit and get them professionally coated.

                                One day.
