yeah it works, only on the left mirror though, plus you have to keep your mirror switch on the left side for it to dip down when you reverse.

Just another tip, remember that the advice "items in the mirror are closer than they appear" also applies to kerbs! It took me a while to judge the ideal distance when using this feature

        • So after 5 months of ongoing coolant contamination problem, 4 coolant flushes and 2 coolant bottles replaced, Volkswagen have finally agreed to replace EVERY component of the cooling system. New engine, dash out to replace heater core, every hose.

Shame it has to be all pulled apart because you wouldn't know it had a problem the way it drives.

Can you explain the problem? I'm (probably) about to order a GTI and I'm keen to hear about any problems people have had so I can keep an eye/ear/nose out for them!

Sediment kept showing up in the bottom of the coolant bottle as well as the coolant changing colour and staining the coolant bootle.

It seems to be a very isolated incident as my dealer and VW Aus had never seen it before. I'd say it was poor cleaning of the engine block or head as it looks like casting sand to me. And the whole system is contaminated now.

Ah OK, thanks for the explanation

                • Not sure if it has been mentioned in the last 279 pages but people should check if their gloss black plastic trim pieces on the rear window are loose. There is a TPI for the double sided tape coming unstuck. Just had both of mine re attached at the last service under warranty. One needed to be replaced as it had a slight crack in it from being loose.

                  • Took the car for its first real spin today. Love this thing. First car I've owned with a sunroof & it's already shining (warmish arvo, but a cool breeze which the sunroof greeted into the cabin). Corners are nothing now - Surprised at zero wheel-spin when tackling them. The response/take off is magic (compared to the Polo). The Automatic Climate Control Aircon is a set & forget marvel. Cruise Control's a cinch, intuitive & immediate in its response.

Was looking at getting an AUX cable for the iPhone (can't find a 10cm anywhere...), but audio via Bluetooth shocked me at how good it is.

Only disappointment thus far is the need to purchase a VW USB cable for playing audio through USB - regular USB-to-Lightning cables can't do it..(only charge).

Little touches like being able to dim the welcome lights + heaps more tweaks appeal to my techie/gadget side so will keep me occupied for a while until I work them all out.

So far, it's all I hoped for - not a boy-racer looker of a car, but one that can be driven comfortabley at each end of the scale & everywhere in between.

Wait what? You can have audio playback through VW USB? I thought you need a MDI conversion for it to happen?

That's what the service bloke at my dealer told me.

He offered to test one out if I brought the car in, which I plan to do at some stage.

Though, as mentioned, audio over Bluetooth is impressive enough. But I just like a cable/charge-in-one connection (if it's not ridiculously expensive!!). Although I did score the sunroof for zilch, so maybe I'm being fussy....

My current car is a Honda Civic VTi-L. I have used the blutooth connectivity to listen to music on my phone (Spotify) ever since I got the car. Coupled with steering wheel controls for both the audio and phone plus voice dialling, it's a completely hands free system. I've never plugged anything into the AUX port despite having had the car for 3 years now. The blutooth even connects automatically so I can leave my phone in my pocket if need be.

I put paper work in today for a new GTI Performance and am ashamed to admit I didn't do any research regarding phone connectivity options despite being a heavy user of the features in my Civic. I should do some reading, though I'm buying this car for much more important reasons than how my phone integrates

Heh. Music's big for me, so phone connectivity is an important aspect, especially for the longer trips. I should've done more research myself, & had the VW cable thrown in instead of say the boot liner, which I won't use as often.

That is, if the VW cable actually works as they say...

I'm actually gonna call my VW dealer tomorrow to ask about this. I really want a connectivity through a cable. I'm using an iPhone and I don't get album art over Bluetooth. Just one of my OCD. Though there's minimal difference over quality if you compare AUX and Bluetooth, normal users probably couldn't tell the difference.

                              • According to the brochure the GTI should do everything my Civic does phone & blutooth wise. I'd say any incompatibility would come down to what phone and OS version I'm using (HTC One and Cyanogen/Android). The only thing I'll ever want to plug my phone into is a power socket and I'm considering a few Qi wireless charging solutions for that purpose. Or even a traditional windscreen mounted dock.
