I was going to agree with you; the R seems a little unresolved in some areas.. but then you expressed interest in the PP wheels and all bets are off.
That comes across as more unresolved than the R - a car with benefits only on track stuck with those 19s. Not to mention the price gap to the R then closes up.. If you're already springing extra for the PP then I'd go the extra mile and take the R. But each to their own of course.

lol if I got an R I'd ask for the GTI PP wheels! Each to their own. Unfortunately the $10K price difference is probably insurmountable for me at this point in time. If the Mrs didn't want a new car at the same time then I could do it no worries2016 GTI Performance | Pure White | JB1 | Dog Bone | Full Tint | Stop/Start Delete | Avatar by sandwg

Admittedly if you need xenons or for some reason like the Santiagos (or, gulp, both) then the PP isn't a bad ride; my gut just says most buyers are picking one up not for those items but thinking they will be buying a quicker car - which they won't be unless they are planning track days in which case again the PP makes sense.
Otherwise save the difference, buy a great set of 19s and a tune and you'll have a good looking weapon for less than a PP.
As for the mrs issue - totally understood. I sorted half the issue out by bringing the car fleet back to one once I sell the GTI. Then the next step is selling her on the benefits of the next ride that I want^^^ err need.

I'm planning on leasing the Golf as I have leased my last 2 cars and the way I manage everything it works out quite well for me. The difference in price per fortnight between the standard GTI and the GTI with PP is $4.95. Yes, four dollars and ninety-five cents. It's a no brainer. I do happen to like the wheels on the PP, and the seats in the PP appeal to me more as well. The diff and power bump are secondary but I would like to take my car to some track days. I also like the pin stripe running into the headlights haha. I've put in a quote request for the R because the lease manufacturers cost is listed as $50k ($45k for the GTI with PP after $3.5k dealer discount) so the $5k difference may again only be a small bump per fortnight. Then again it does all add up so $40 or so could break the R being a viable option.
Money man. I need more.2016 GTI Performance | Pure White | JB1 | Dog Bone | Full Tint | Stop/Start Delete | Avatar by sandwg

If your paperwork is coming back at $5/wk then agreed, no-brainer. Clearly that doesn't tie back to the price difference so assume there's a similar residual difference coming into play. Definitely worth pricing the R up on that basis because it is a superior alternative particularly once the track days come into play.
As mine was never going to be more than a daily with some weekend drives I couldn't justify the gap, particularly with two cars in the garage. Now that it's dropping back to one I have a bit more flexibility when it comes time to change over the family ride.
We all need more money - you're only ever $10k away from the next ride up the ladder you want!

Hi guys,
I took the new Mk7 GTI for a spin on the weekend and was pretty impressed with it in comparison to the Mk5 GTI which I currently have. In regards to pricing, the cheapest they would go to was $46K on road with DSG and leather. I was hoping to get a bit more off the price. Have you guys been able to do any better?

Others may have different opinions but $46K seems great to me.2016 GTI Performance | Pure White | JB1 | Dog Bone | Full Tint | Stop/Start Delete | Avatar by sandwg

Objectively I think it's pretty good.
The GTI Performance has more loaded into it than just the performance pack. It also has alcantara, bi-xenons, LED rear lights, 19" wheels and tinting. So sub $46k for a GTI Performance is much a better deal than $46k for a base GTI DSG with leather IMOMY14 MK VII GTI | Pure White | Manual | Bi-Xenons (his)

This convinced me that the leather option provided my VW is massively overpriced. I spoke to a company about after market leather trim installation (better choice of colours, patterns, and styles) and they were willing to come down to around $2k for aftermarket leather. Not worth it IMO. Thankfully the seats in the Performance Pack feel much nicer to me than the base GTI, so I'll live.
TL;DR I personally think the quote zeynay has is still pretty good. This of course is dependant on the lease quote being considered good. Seems great compared to the prices I'm seeing on Carsales!2016 GTI Performance | Pure White | JB1 | Dog Bone | Full Tint | Stop/Start Delete | Avatar by sandwg

I just took a GTI Performance for a test drive. Wowzers. ****'s all over any car I've ever driven.
Anyway, one question - at one point I went around a really tight corner and planted my foot. The car launched but the DSG shuddered HARD about 3 or 4 times before changing gear. Like violently hard. Definitely didn't sound or feel great. I jokingly asked the dealer if it should be doing that and he basically just dodged the question. Didn't do it again after that despite giving it the beans on multiple occasions.
I seem to recall having read about this somewhere on here before. Any ideas? Can't be good for the transmission if it does that every now and then...2016 GTI Performance | Pure White | JB1 | Dog Bone | Full Tint | Stop/Start Delete | Avatar by sandwg
