Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

I suggest you do some research buy direct from Europe and them have a non dealer VW specialist fit them (coding may be needed as well which your service guys can do).

btw, its very early days in the supply cycle of R's etc, they may not yet be easy to source
I'd expect as you suggest that price to come down. If I was you Kenny I'd be sticking to my PP tails for now. If that cost comes back to three figures then reconsider - if it does I might even look into it eventually.

I'm still not sold on the LEDs this time around, although they are growing on me, but sitting at the dealer yesterday conveniently an R and a PP GTI were by the exit driveway and so I could compare them easily and the smoked/tinted R look was 100% better than the 'cherry' on the PP. I'd definitely be looking at options to get that darkened look.

I'd also be looking at getting my hands on a cable and coding that full LED brake light in per the other thread, that in itself makes it look better, I can only guess something ADR related meant they had to use the reduced lights as standard?

    • Hi all, just wondering what setting you drive your GTI in? Do you leave it in Normal, Comfort, Sport or have your individual setup?

        • Comfort for me. I'm getting old..

The ride is superb - not dissimilar to that of my CX5 GT which admittedly rides on 19s.

I don't miss my non-DCC Mk6 on VWR springs at all.

          • I leave it on normal most of the time, but if i'm driving with someone else, I go to comfort mode. I agree with Dutch, the comfort actually means comfort.

            • Wasabiz: done any more research into the KW DDCs? Would be interested to hear any research or progress on this possibility, particularly ride quality and comfort.

I've been researching but no results on the DDCs for MK7. Though I have read that in Singapore people are putting in the variant 3 of their street performance coilovers and it's been doing them quite well.

There are 2 versions to the DDCs there's one that's plug and play which works with our standard DDC button,
KW automotive GmbH - Gewindefahrwerke, Rennsportfahrwerke, Sportfedern - KW DDC - Plug & Play coilovers inox
This is the one I'm looking into.

And then there's the other one which sounds abit too hardcore for me, as it is 500 euro more dearer and is controlled by a retrofit button or an app that goes into your phone (Mind you that an additional W-LAN module is needed for this - More extra cost and more failure points)

So.. all in all I think the normal DDC ones attract me more than the ECU DDC as I want to lower my height maybe an extra 5mm?

Be interesting to see how the costs come up on the first option these days - I reckon it was a $4k+ investment only a couple of years ago.

I do recall a car running the more expensive versions in a Motor Hot Tuner as they commented on the fact it relayed back to the app. Again I reckon it was listed at around $4k in the options list for whichever car it was.

For a 5mm drop I'd be wondering whether there is a compliant enough set of springs that will do the job?

I had VWR springs on my Mk6 and that gave around a 20mm drop - great height for looks, and overall it wasn't so bad ride wise, but having now experienced the Mk7 in comfort and normal I'd be wary about touching it this time around. I'll just have to live with some wheel gap.

This time an honest response. When I was picking up my car we were discussing various things and the towbar issue came up - he then mentioned the same issue in trying to get mudflaps sorted from VWA (I'm not looking at any of these items, it was just a general conversation).

I was told the same thing by my trusted dealer. They are not available yet. They are not the standard Golf 7 mud flaps. I think it is because of the diffuser under the Golf 7 GTI bumper.

                              • So is it just me, of do people not like the steering wheel of the Mk7 GTI as much as the old one? My Polo 6R GTI had a wonderful chunky little steering wheel with punched leather, it was a great little bit of kit. The Mk7 GTI's wheel feels too much like the TSI & TDI models to me. A little thing, sure, but this is my feeling.
