Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

I recieved my new mk7 golf GTI with DSG on Friday and I love it.

I'm still getting used to the car however I had one question.

If I accelerate hard from a complete stop, the traction control light on the dashboard flickers briefly and there is a bit of a thud, it only happens for a split second..

I'm thinking I'm just loosing traction on the front wheels and think its normal but wanted to see what you guys thought? Otherwise I'm loving the new car
Is that after start stop has activated?
I sometimes get a thud in the change fron 1 to 2 in manual mode if the car has stopped itself beforehand.

        ok firstly, sorry if this is a stupid question, but I'm trying to work out which lights are what in the headlight cluster on my GTI, I have the standard Halogen lights. According to the Manual I have;
        - Side Lights
        - Daytime Running Lights
        - Dipped Beam/Main Beam lights.

The picture in the manual doesn't break down which ones are which..

In relation to Navigation and traffic Alerts I have the 2015 maps...and when the FM Radio or Navigation is on 'TP' comes up on the top middle of the screen, However if I press the traffic button it seems to always say 'No Traffic Alerts' ( or something to that affect). Do I need to enable it via VCDS?

        Many thank again.

Your inner most lights are the daytime / high beam lights. 'Side lights' are just parker lights. The outer light is your normal headlight (main beam / dipped beam)

Tp function is not supported by vga in Aus at the current time.

If you activate via vcds then you will void warranty as the licence hasn't been purchased plus vga not supporting it.

        Hope this helped

        • Thanks piper, that's exactly what I was after. I guess I need to forget about traffic alerts for a few years unless VW have a change of heart.

          Cheers

          • I turned traffic on via the back screens on the unit (no VCDS required) but honestly, I never use it. It's more of a nuisance than anything

Thanks Jimi, sorry but what do you mean by 'back screens' do you mean just in the menu options?

                    • Went past a dealer & had a quick look (had no time to test drive) at a black & white GTI.

Really liking the white - both were a little dirty on the boot (as hatchbacks tend to be), yet the much cleaner looking white despite the dirt had me leaning toward it....it already had the edge with the more enhanced 'fins' on the front bumper - which is what this 'tame' (arguable) looking hot hatch needs to make it look more aggressive. The darker tones (yet to see the Carbon Steel) mask the fins, which I don't like.

Is that brand new, Ralfi? I was at my dealer here in Hobart this morning and they have a used (5,000kms) 2014 white base manual GTI for ~$45,000 otr. I thought that a bit excessive for what is basically a used car. Besides, it doesn't have xenons....

I agree about the white - accentuates the angles and creases, which looks a tad more aggressive. I've had a white car before and they are surprisingly easy to look after - doesn't show the dirt and dust as bad as I expected it would. Dark colours are way worse in that regard.

Sure is. Congrats on the purchase & the long wait coming to an end!

Can't say for sure if demo's or not. I rushed my way through the yard as I had other stuff to do up the road. I do remember the disc brakes looking pretty dirty, so they may be demos. Only way to find out is to call. But then again, they're having a '14 run-out sale, so they could be new.......

Yeah, when I was thinking about colours for a Polo GTI, I wanted something dark to hide the less aggressive overall shape of the body - it made the car look better from more angles & lower too, as the skirts were black. In white, it wouldn't have looked anywhere near as aggressive.

With the Golf GTI, it's the opposite imo - the black highlights on a white body provide a nice contrast & make the thing look better from more angles. & the red reflector lights on the lower rear bumper stand out more, breaking up the appearance.

I've been changing colours on this site heaps, trying to compare...

Seeing the Carbon Steel may throw this theory out the window though!

                            • There's a thread somewhere (maybe VWGolf.net.au?) about Carbon Steel grey being a nightmare to paint match. Lots of pictures in the thread would seem to support that notion.

45 for a 5k 2014 demo manual is a rip. It must have some options at that price. Surely it would work out cheaper to go interstate even with the extra costs?
