Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

I was just responding to your assertion that the A250 took the Golf GTI ideal to a whole new level. I don't believe that is true.

As for GTI pricing... It seems to be similar in the UK market to here. The 5 door GTI DSG is about 10% cheaper than an A250 (Engineer by AMG)

As far as I can see voice control only comes on the A250 if you option the Becker Maps or the HK stereo upgrade.
Voice control is optional on Golfs in UK

    • I am one of those who also jump to Mercedes from VW due to reliability issues and have to say Mercedes have won me over in so many things related to service and ownership cost.

But having said that there is "X" factor that is missing from my old GTI.. esp the sweet transmission that is lacking from mercedes (yes its a big deal!) I still comeback to this forum and really admire the new GTI

Apart of sales, service, options etc.. I think the new GTI still is the king of hot hatch! Maybe i will return for mk 8

      Gratz to the lucky owner!

I would've agreed with you until the Mk7 R specs were announced. The new E888 engine with nearly 300HP and gen 5 Haldex sending 100% power to the rear will be a massive step up from the GTI, and the previous R for that matter.

          • What would I rather own ? A cheap Mercedes or an expensive VW......

I chose a Red GTI with the lot, minus the leather. March delivery 2014

                Hello Captain.

                Answers.

                Yes - usually every 6 months;

Yes - but not until supply and demand are more or less in equilibrium.
If the answer to the Monty Hall problem was 50/50, the contestant, on average, would win the car 50% of the time simply by sticking with their original guess...but you can only win a one-in-three guessing game 33.33% of the time so it can't be 50/50, can it?

                • Thanks mate

Worth keeping an eye out for

I'm biding my time for the best deal

I've also just learnt my company is on vws corporate list so I am exploring that avenue as well

Cars registered and delivered within the promotional period; if a dealer can source and deliver a car in time, it's covered.

                      • Hi Guys, long time reader of the forum. Just wondering what everyone's thoughts are on a quote of 52.5K for one with DSG, leather, sunroof and bixenons. Expected delivery is sometime in Feb. The quote includes corporate discount of 2k. I am not sure whether I should wait till Feb and negotiate then when there are a few more cars available with possibly these options.

Given that the GTI has just been released and you have got a 2k discount for a car that has to be built/delivered, I would say you have done ok. Only you can decide whether to pocket the 2k now or trust your negotiation skills when the cars arrive to get a better deal. The other option is to ensure your deposit is fully refundable if you cancel

                            Hi mate,

                            44k base
                            approx 4.5k on roads
                            2k xenons
                            3k leathers
                            2k sunroof
                            -----------
                            approx 55.5k

                            so discount isn't too bad.
Tell em to throw in the metallic paint (if not red and white) and tints too
also check if the corporate discount gets u free servicing too.
