The difference between an optioned Golf GTI (leather, DA, Bi-Xennon) and a comparably configured Mercedes Benz A250 sport is roughly $5k

Just got back from dealer today. Was told that Sunroof is NOT available as an option in the GTI PP!!! Makes absolutely no sense. Who makes these decisions?????

The sunroof is not available on any overseas model with 19' rims specced and I assume it's the same here. It has something to do with either overall weight or durability on the harsher ride.

Add to that VWA's habit of bundling options and not allowing extras and that's probably another reason you can't do it (PP with manual being a classic example)

The same thing also applies to their market - cannot select the sunroof with 19" wheels.

Can't make up my mind now if I should just get a fully optioned STD GTI with a ECU tune.
The PP comes with Front E-Diff and Alcantra seats. Not sure is the E-Diff is that noticeable in day to day driving. On race tracks I am sure it matters.
Also noticed there are no options for audio upgrade. the DynaAudio on my TSI Comfortline sounds heaps better than the GTI 7 I test drove today. Dealer recommends third party upgrade.

UK Configurator allows for a GTI with PP Pack on 18 inch wheels and a Sunroof. Also has Dyna Audio option.

The "original" Performance Pack, as seen in the German and UK market (and possibly most of Europe), only includes the bigger (heavier) 17" brakes, a limited-slip differential and an extra 7 kW of power - so you can still option the sunroof.

Volkswagen Australia have for some reason decided to include 19" wheels (and other frippery) with the PP - which again, cancels out the sunroof option.

Imbeciles at VWA?

I'm particularly annoyed about the Dynaudio option being dropped. I seriously do not understand why VWA do not allow you to special order whatever combination of options you want.
