Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Price comes out 1st Oct, you would at least be able to negotiate that mk6 price down, mk7 gti is meant to be priced super sharp

    • I noted a red Mk 7 GTI today not far from the HQ around Chullora way this evening.

      • I spoke to my local dealer on Friday about the new GTI(I have been in touch with him a couple of times before). He spoke to the state manager (who apparently had been looking at some new GTIs brand new in the dock that day) who suggested we get a deposit and a contract signed, which should help put me up the list. They cant physically order the new MK7, so its a MK6 on the contract with a special note "subject to volkswagen pricing on Gen 7 GTI". They said by early September they should be able to tell me what cars/options are in the country and should be able to finalize pricing by the end of September for delivery of mid to late October.

The only option I have told them I want are the Xenon headlights (as it dosn't look like these will be standard) so hopefully they can tell me what cars have come in, or whats coming in the next batch and I can grab one of those

I realize that these guys have now got me by the balls in terms of pricing, but I have already decided on the car and have already turned down the A250 and am now in need of a new car

        • If the Mk7 is suppose to be mind blowing in price, then all of us with Mk6s are being taken to the dunny can. Can the GTI really be a $29,990 special like the 86? I would have thought it possible when the Euro was at 0.75, not now though....

                  • I'm guessing if there is a "cheap" GTI it won't have all the comforts of the Highline, but a 5 door DSG GTI at around 38k would still be a decent saving compared to the Mk6. Then there's also the fact I know someone who bargained the price of a 103TSI down to 30k drive away at the end of June, so there must be room to move if that's what they want to do.

                      • There's no way the manual 3 dr will be any less than $39k. It's better equipped than the mk6. They wouldn't want to destroy the value of 2nd hand cars either

Just a shame they're marketing an inferior product without the PP

                        • Can anyone confirm if the performance pack(PP) will be offered in Aus. I will be after a 5dr manual and would hate to miss out on the PP.

I really hope theres a 3 door, but everyone has been saying otherwise. I'm not sure if I'd buy a 5 door to be honest. I'll buy either a clio rs or a 3 door polo again.

                              • Someone said they were worried about the ~60 Mk6 GTI's sitting at dealerships, which might correlate. There's no reason for them to care about the value of our cars though (unless it kills brand loyalty in some customers). I just hope the car isn't engineered cheaply and we have another round of failures and recalls, etc.

As long as my car continues to work I'm happy to wait for either the GTI PP or the R to arrive, pending pricing info, etc.
