Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. • It is very clear that no one has much of an idea how much the new GTI will be and what will come standard etc etc etc. It is all conjecture. Why can't we all be patient and wait for confirmation before making rash decisions. I waited 6 months for my GTI, with the options I wanted. If you really must get your hands on the first batch coming in please don't complain about the car having options you don't want or need.
My dad signed for a GTI a few years ago before the Mk5 had been released in Australia as they said they had a car in the first batch to arrive. Then his car magically disappeared and Camberwell VW had him by the balls. They kept blowing him off for 6 months, promising him a car 4 or 5 times and finally saying it would be another 8 months (14months after putting his $2000 deposit down). i dragged dad in there and demanded a refund and cancellation of the deal. Only getting this when we demanded to speak to the dealer principle. Putting money down on a car that doesn't even exist is fraught with danger and virtually destroys any bargaining power you might have.
And don't complain about how much you are being "forced" to pay.
It's very hard waiting for something but sometimes it's worth it.

Well said. People are a tad nuts to put deposits on cars (especially with options) when the dealers have no idea on prices or stock. Being first in queue means nothing if none of the cars match your specs.

As for a 1500 price rise... The outgoing 5 door was 40500 + ORC. So the MK7 (if it follows the 1500 increase rumour) will probably be $41950 + ORC. Not sure how that gets to 48,990.

      • I find rather bizarre price is still actually unknown, when putting a deposit on the a250 it was 5-6 months before I got it and knew exactly the price including onroads etc which was all on the contract. Also on the contract was the clause "subject to test drive". Which is not a big deal to include. Heck what if you finally get to drive one and hate it or find its not as good as something else or not enough jump up from what you have.

Pre ordering is not a big deal as long as take some little precautions.

But price is pretty basic. That's got to be known how can have a contract without a price ? Sounds crazy to me !

          • Looking at a "new car price list" I have in front of me (not VW), drive away prices consist of Dealer Delivery - $2750 and On Road Cost - $3235, so that's an extra $6000 on top of "Manufactures List Price".

So if you say the new GTI is approx. $42k, that would make it approx $47k - $48k drive away!

VW have released the official specs of what is and what isn't standard, I think they are posted some place earlier in this discussion.

Putting a deposit on a car 'can' be fraught with danger, but isn't if you make sure of a few things. Having a good relationship is a good starting point, however the wording is key. Put conditions in such as 'subject to buyer approval of price should there be an increase' and buyer has right to cancel if car isn't delivered by xxx'.

In the case of the new GTI there isn't a problem in the world. NO dealer is going to hold to an early car that hasn't been prebuilt to some crazy combination of specs. I am comfortable if I don't go ahead with the car I have 'reserved', the dealer will have it sold to someone else in no time.

              • No idea why you'd rush in for the first batch of Golf 7 GTI's when the GTI PP is just around the corner. I'd wait to see what the PP GTI has to offer for only a small price increase ... best to drive GTI Std and GTI PP back to back to be sure.

You can't assume dealer delivery prices are fixed between dealers of the same car, let alone other manufacturers' dealers. Further, ORCs vary substantially from state to state (and vary based on the purchase price of the vehicle).

You are certainly better off waiting until early October when prices are released, before jumping to any conclusions and purchasing another car. Unless price is not the deciding factor, of course.

What car is it? the $3235 on top of deal delivery sounds suss. Even if true it would apply to any equivalently priced car.

That was from Audi dealership price list, and that was against the Audi S3. $60k + dealer dev + ORC = drive away price of approx $66k.

                        • Every state and probably every dealer has different "on road costs" or "drive away price". You certainly cannot assume the drive away price is the same for a VW and another manufacturer. Yes they are all under the VWA group but will always charge differently. I reckon Audi would try to get away with charging more for screwing on your number plates for instance!
Unless I'm blind, I can't see where VW have released any official specs for the GTI. I don't know where those scanned images came from. They sound about right though.
I'm just saying be VERY careful signing ANY contract when prices or specs have not been announced. A contract is a contract.
