Exactly the vibe that I sensed when I had a chat to them today. We have a weird, relatively small market here. Im begged them to bring the PP, the response I got was that it is still under consideration. How much longer do they want to 'consider' if they should get it for our market?AUTOBLOGAUSTRALIA : http://autoblogaustralia.blogspot.com.au

[QUOTE=pologti18t;974529]I don't think you understand one thing here, in the automotive journo world, its Fairfax vs. the rest. They are considered to be unknowledgeable, biased, and unable to produce quality pieces of journalism.Originally posted by Golf7 View PostNone of all this makes sense, we want the real GTI, without the PP, we will forever be subconsciously thinking of how the car could have been better...
A GTI under 40K would be welcome... stuff the xenons, sat nav etc etc.
LOL... oh please. Those journos (SMH for one) who on one hand praise a car then on the other have no qualms stabbing the knife into the brand. Most journos should keep their mouths shut and be lucky they get cars to drive round for FREE.
Much like politicians they live in an unreal world.
My previous point was that we are REALLY pestering them about the PP. But honestly, we enthusiasts, are just a small minority of weirdos who like cars, who on earth is going to listen to our two cents? Rest assured that your views are being put forward, just listen VWA!AUTOBLOGAUSTRALIA : http://autoblogaustralia.blogspot.com.au

Yup, it will definitely be before October.Originally posted by Jimi View PostWhen is the release of the specs anticipated? Hopefully it's before October!
And from what they hinted to us today, it looks like the car will be drive-away for around 39 grand.AUTOBLOGAUSTRALIA : http://autoblogaustralia.blogspot.com.au

I put down a deposit at my local dealer today (2011 gti just got written off...Originally posted by Golf7 View PostYup, it will definitely be before October. ..
) for a mkVII gti. I read this thread beforehand, and while at my local major VW dealer in Melb pumped them for info. They knew very little and were sceptical of hearing anything before the cars arriving... They said even pricing may not be released till a couple of days before cars arrived. They were rather jaundiced about VW Aust ability to communicate details ahead of time like pricing, features, availability date etc. This feeling was apparently based on how the MkVII launch went earlier this year.
They did say once they have a deposit it goes into the ordering and stock allocation system which nationally influences what hey get. They said out of the base stick of cars arriving, each dealer will get an allocation influenced by the pre orders out of the national pool. So this seems to be positive in terms of getting a go at preferred color & features. Didn't bother about performance pack ... Would be nice..
It does puzzle me if cars are on their way (as per this thread):
A) why is the available date Oct/nov?
B) why is there this whole uncertainty about features.. Since cars are made.
I can understand final pricing being more open, but not the above. Anyone know?Golf VII GTI MY 14 (Post my VI Adidas GTI being written off)

Very good point, if the cars are out there, why cant we find out what spec they are?Originally posted by MikeB View PostI put down a deposit at my local dealer today (2011 gti just got written off...

As a motoring journalist it's not really your job to beg manufacturers to do anything. It removes your impartiality to some extent.Originally posted by Golf7 View PostIm begged them to bring the PP, the response I got was that it is still under consideration. What did James May say once (not that he is an expert) - It's because of the sway of journalists that every car now needs to be said to have been tested at The 'Ring :- leading to hard riding cars that have muted responses at "normal" speeds. And i tend to agree to an extent.
Leave the PP pack as some special edition..... for real enthusiasts.

Something like that, don't expect the RRP to be over 40 grand.Originally posted by SuperHans View PostJust to clarify, they are looking at a 39K drive-away all inclusive price? If so that's very nice.AUTOBLOGAUSTRALIA : http://autoblogaustralia.blogspot.com.au

Why can't we have the PP pack as an option as they do overseas - rather than giving VWA the opportunity to gouge us with some 'special edition'.Originally posted by pologti18t View PostAs a motoring journalist it's not really your job to beg manufacturers to do anything. Thank-you to the journalists for pressuring VWA to make the PP pack available, I am looking at buying either a GTI with PP or an R next year, but I wont buy a GTI with out the PP option ticked.Last edited by mfl; 25-07-2013, 08:04 PM.mk VI GTI, manual, reflex silver, basic

Well the reality everywhere is that they take our opinions seriously, very seriously. The Sport Package on the Mk.6 Golf, that was us. The ACC on the Scirocco, that was us. The Mk.7 Highline's Sat Nav? The omission of the 77TSI as it doesn't have a multi-link in the rear? You can thank Wheels for the last two items. You see, must reviews of a car are written in the first 6 months after it debuts locally, all the awards are given in the same year (Wheels COTY), so it made sense to include 'better' variants from debut. Everyone remember the Golf 7's launch in Sardinia? Well, they only let us drive the 103TSI and 110TDI variants with every single option ticked. Somehow they conveniently forgot about every single other variant.Originally posted by pologti18t View PostAs a motoring journalist it's not really your job to beg manufacturers to do anything. Sports pack on Golf 6 came out 4+ years ago... you weren't around then (afaik) and all it did was fill in the spot left by the deletion of the Golf GT Sport. Highline Mk7 always needed Sat Nav to match it competitors! The 77TSI demise was probably to allow the Skoda Rapid some breathing space and the fact the old 77TSI didn't sell all that well.Originally posted by Golf7 View PostWell the reality everywhere is that they take our opinions seriously, very seriously. Waiting for your Golf roadtest on your blog.
And we all kinda knew the new Golf GTI would be in the same starting price point as the old model.

Don't say that haha, it's probably music to VWA's ears - if we don't get the PP it's probably to push those who want it up to the R. I can't afford an R so it's either PP GTI or I will have to start looking around againOriginally posted by mfl View PostWhile can't we have the PP pack as an option as they do overseas - rather than giving VWA the opportunity to gouge us with some 'special edition'.
