Went to a launch party at VW tonight. Having already seen them in Germany earlier this year I wasn't as excited as I might otherwise have been. The ones on show didn'thave the 19's or bi xenons, two things which in my opinion really make the car.Nonetheless, very nice car. I especially like the interior.
19" wheels and Bi-Xenons are two options I would not get. My MK6 GTI has Bi-Xenons: unless you drive a lot at night moreso in country areas without street-lighting, not much point in having them imo. Bi-Xenons also do not work well in foggy conditions ... in this respect they were a waste of money. As for 19" ... ride is terse enough on 18". Neighbour Ray is complaining about his MK6 Golf R on 19" with no DCC already.

I've got bixenons too with LED DRLs. I think they are fantastic and definitely worthwhile. I live in the city, but they are worth their metal on the odd occasion where I do drive on windy country roads. However, the reason why I would get them on the mk7 is mainly because of the red stripe feature and the LED DRLs. Aesthetics are also why I'd get the 19"s. They are ****-hot

Tobes, I was there too. Don't think I met you?
But I did REALLY like the black one with the sunroof, my pref would have to be the PP coming out next year but at $4000 plus the sunroof at $2700 you are looking at a pretty expensive car. In saying that it is a complete class above the ST and Megane RS that were there too.
No xenons until next year people when it comes with the PP GTI.
I'm still a bit devo that they aren't bringing in the 3 door. I would have got a white 3 door PP with xenons, 19"s, leather, sunroof. 5 door will probably do though.
Apparently the PP will be released just before the lease runs out on my Adidas. Hmmmm
I can see the same issue with lack of availability of vehicles re: higher spec Golfs (GTI, GTD, R) as in the past. Nothing has changed with Volkswagen. Many City dealers put the bounce on you asking you if you're ready to purchase today ... if your ready to sign a contract today. I put my offer on the table and said, where do I sign? Dealer still reluctant to negotiate with me due to trade-in.
On another note: Numerous reports are coming through indicating that the new motor coupled with Manual Trans, whether it is in the Audi S3 or Golf 7 GTI, suffers from turbo lag. I believe this may be partly due to the motor, as reports state that the Focus ST responds faster in the low to mid rev range re: turbo spooling ... and in addition, perhaps the long gearing of the new Audi/Golf Manual Trans, which enhances fuel economy over the DSG, but may blunt the low end or instant engine response.
Here you go.
Go and have a look at a Merc A250. $49,990 plus on road. Standard bixenons, panoramic sunroof, double clutch automatic, "man made" suede/alcantara seats with red stitching, 18 inch alloys and a lot more stylish inside and out. Just as fast. Just as economical. I'm pretty sure factory tinted rear windows. All standard. Sorry VW. I never thought I'd defect.

WJ - good review . . . I recall you did something similar on the Mark VI GTI and R too if I am not mistaken when they came out.
Was that Barlowelt who showed such antipathy?
As I mentioned earlier, I think VWA should have ditched the SatNav in favour of the universally useful Driver Assistance package that would have allowed VWA to position the car around $39,990. By the way, contrary to someone else's post, I thought the roof was $1,850.
Interested in your comments on Xenons. Was considering them on my Mark VII (do not have Xenons on my Mark V) however your comments about not needing them for city driving make sense whereas Tobes may well they need them in Brisbane.
If the answer to the Monty Hall problem was 50/50, the contestant, on average, would win the car 50% of the time simply by sticking with their original guess...but you can only win a one-in-three guessing game 33.33% of the time so it can't be 50/50, can it?

Sat Nav is only a $1000 option (on lower spec golfs)... so ditching would not save enough to offset the Driver Assistance package. And in this market you would end up with 60% of the people ordering it as an option... then they are back to square one with regards stock.
Interestingly... the euro GTIs dont get sat nav as standard (they get the normal stereo from the Highline). The Discovery Pro option is worth more than the Vienna leather option (or 3 times more than Dynaudio option). Can you see people copping $3000+ for sat nav here?
Not all leather got the electric, it was a extra option
I think you got confused. I'm talking about the electric lumbar adjustment that came bundled with leather seats in the Mk6 along with seat warmer. Actual electric seat costed extra.
In the Mk7, they took out the electric lumbar adjustment bit and lowered the price to $3,150. I checked it out when I went on my test drive.

The A250 is also a nice car at a good price. However after test driving both the A250 and the new GTI, I felt that neither of them are that much better than my Mk6. Just makes me appreciate my Mk6 more I guess!
